Canton Bar

Possibly the best beer based cocktail I’ve ever had. Came here on a whiskey tour and the bar staff were pretty informative and entertaining. Not bad for a Wednesday

A lot of money has been spent fixing this place up and you can see it. The atmosphere is relaxed and funky. It’s spacious with its strategically placed Chesterfield lounges and subtle lighting. It has great cocktail and nibbles menus and also a funky grassed area outside for a smoke should you be nicotinely challenged.
Great for a relaxed Friday drinks or function.

I’d been here once before a long time ago but didn’t really remember. This time I will remember as it was not impressive.
We arrived just before a huge rush of people during the Giants event on Saturday afternoon. The bar staff were just standing around and seemed reluctant to serve and more interested in mucking around with each other.
I asked to see a cocktail list but was told there wasn’t one and I could just tell them what I felt like and they’d try to make it. I couldn’t be bothered doing that so just got a cider, which seemed to take a long time to organise for the female bartender. Our friends were waiting much longer.
Cute little rooftop but not a whole lot else going for this place.

I headed back to Canton this weekend for a cocktail and a bite to eat after watching The Giants and found my experience to be not nearly as good as the last time I visited Canton some time ago.
It took an extremely long time to be served at the bar, and a lot of the staff at the bar were hanging around not serving anyone while the line at the bar was three rows deep. When we did finally get served the two bar staff serving myself and my friend were very cold, if not pretty rude.
My cocktail and the food I ordered (dumplings and edamame) were all lacking. I verged on two to three stars for this review, and with so many great bars with spot on cocktails, wonderful food and customer service on offer in Perth, I probably won’t head back to Canton again now.

I want to put a bit of a disclaimer ahead of my Canton Lounge review — I have only ever come here for after work drinks. I like a few things from my post-​work watering holes — a relaxed space, a good drink and the opportunity to debrief with friends and colleagues.
Canton Lounge Bar is an interesting and quite handsome space, but relaxed it is not. It’s kind of awkwardly designed for busy periods, with low tables and lounges that take up a lot of space without seating many people. Large groups end up squished uncomfortably around other groups, and ordering any kind of nibbly food just isn’t going to happen. It can also be very loud, which is not particularly conducive to conversation.
I probably sound like an old person, but it’s just not my preferred environment for a Friday evening. That said, if you’re looking for something with a bustling vibe, good cocktails and friendly staff, you could do worse. Just watch the stairs on the way out!

This is a little upstairs bar on Hay St in Perth. The décor in this place is a strange mix between old and new. The ceiling is old style tin pressed ceiling, there is bright blue paint on some walls and different vintage wallpapers. Somehow this weird mix works though. You have a few options, with a outside terrace, comfy lounge area and the bar.
I liked the vibe of this place. Everyone here from staff to clientele were relaxed and happy. There was no aggro like in some Perth bars and clubs.
On the recommendation of a friend I tried their «homemade lemonade» and no, this is not something for the kiddies. It was a mix of lemon, cointreau and jack daniels. I didn’t mind it.
The food is a bit of everything. They have modern Australian, asian, spanish tapas, and italian meals. We had the spanish share plate. It had yummy bread with capsicum dip, chorizo, feta and roasted vegetables. It was delicious.
