I love KAU, I have been eating here for years! They make the best coffee in Northcote and the food is cheap and tasty. I find them very consistent with their size and quality and the staff are super lovely.

Kau is a cute little café opposite the new«welcome to Thornbury» food vans location. My friend and I shared a BLT and the small size tasting plate which wasn’t really small at all, it included a generous serving of Turkish bread, hummus, olives, panchetta, smoked salmon, pickled purple cabbage and tomato relish. It was delicious, but even more delicious was the Portuguese tart we had afterwards with coffee. I’ll be returning here for sure.

Kau(apparently pronounced ko) is the sweet little café that I’m happy to call my local. Great coffee, different takes on café food and a short, tasty booze list keeps me coming back. They often have art from locals hanging on the walls, for sale of you wish and on a sunny day the courtyard is the bomb.

Small menu for both lunch and dinner respectively, but all the options are great. A full array of good qaulity bottled drinks, coffee, and the regular fare. Spinach and halomui triangles, great tasting BLT’s, and various incarnations of baked eggs all appear on the menu. Kau is a favourite with locals and it’s easy to see why. Highly recommended as one of the better eating spots in the immediate area of it’s high street location. Bright light filled café and pleasant staff. Very reasonably priced too.

Such a cute little Melbourne café with charming wooden tables and eclectic photographs decorating the walls. I have been a few times and always enjoyed their avocado on toast with feta and a side of house made beans. It has proved to be quite the tasty meal. It’s also worth noting that they are very generous with their servings — I think they give you a whole avo! This great little space has plenty of yummy options for vegetarians. I am looking forward to trying more.

So I know Northcote is so in right now and they have awesome, awesome options but I really could not do any research… I found myself down at Digital Camera Warehouse purchasing a new lens for my camera and needed a breakfast hit plus some opportunities to play with my new lens… I liked the set up, I ordered my breakfast /brunch which was served promptly. A coffee, OJ and BLT later I was happy with what I had consumed but felt that some conversation could have made this place better. From arriving, I was instructed what to do but was not really made to feel at home… I can only seem to wonder, did my camera make them jump to some conclusions of what type of person I was? Anyways, the food and coffee was ok and I wouldn’t mind returning but will not be back in a rush.

Had a very nice chai tea, it was a bit cold even though I asked for it to be very hot! Also had fruit toast with ricotta and rhubarb sprinkled with nuts, this was very nice but a little too sweet, probably would not visit again.

I got a chai and the fruit bread with ricotta, sweetened rhubarb and crushed almonds. The flavour of the chai was really nice, only problem was it was quite cold when I asked for extra hot. The fruit bread on the other hand was really delicious and I would highly recommend it if you’re a fan of fruit toast.

I see Avocado on Toast is now a bit of a yardstick for measuring breakfast places. Kau do the best one I’ve had so far, with Feta and Tabasco on it. Their BLT-like thing was also lovely, on a return visit. Definitely a favourite location for this part of town, now.

The owners of this place have a good history in Melbourne cafes so you can always expect a decent coffee! The food is quick and delicious if you’re in for breakfast or light lunch, and there’s a specials menu that always has something that will take your fancy. There is just nothing in the immediate area that can compete with Kau, go check it out if you’re a local!
