The Railway Hotel is a long-standing institution in Fremantle, with the original building built in the 19th century. Today, the Railway is a stalwart of the local music scene, and plays host to a myriad number of local music events, from jazz to rock. The Railway is divided into two areas — the front section, with its own bar, and the back section, with chairs, the performance stage and even some room for dancing. There is also an outside area for smokers or for those who would rather partake in the evening air. As a bar, the Railway has a decent selection of drinks at reasonable prices and ample seating. As a performance space, the stage is large enough to accommodate most bands and their PA is quite good. There is enough space in the Railway to accommodate two stagers, and some local music events have taken advantage of the size of the Railway. The Railway Hotel is worth a visit if you are keen to sample some of Perth’s local music.
