It might not be the sort of place you need often, but relying on Metro can sometimes leave you hanging and desperate for something to occupy your mind. So that’s where Transit News comes in, located above the subway in Melbs Central. Newspapers, mags, munchies, drinks and Tattslotto. It can sometimes help alleviate the stress caused by our glorious public transport system.

Transit News wins five stars largely for being in such a handy position. If you’re unfortunate enough to regularly suffer the twenty minutes plus waiting times of the Upfield line(and the like) then this is the place for you. The perfect pit stop to grab a magazine or newspaper for the journey home, Transit News has a huge variety of reading material for those tricky occasions when you’ve finished your MX before the train/tram has even arrived. Whether you’re looking for a gossip mag, high brow international arts journal or a VTAC guide they’ve got everything.

Transit News is the perfect place to catch a good magazine and satisfy any last minute stationary needs before work. They open at 7.15 Monday to Friday and stay open till 6.30 so anyone who slept in has a chance to pop in. They stock a huge range of magazines in every category as well as a variety of cute notebooks and stationary. There are postage essentials like envelopes in all sizes as well as graphic design folios and sketchpads. There are always security guards hovering around the magazines so try not to look suss or you will make a new clingy friend. The counter has a huge variety of lollies and chewing gum, which the staff will encourage you to buy. They also have tattslotto tickets and scratchies here so you can try your luck at getting a win. The staff here are pretty good and when it’s quiet will always have a conversation with you. I love this part of shopping here — it’s always great being remembered.
