The only reason why I came to Sportsgirl is because I googled for an Australian equivalent of America’s Forever 21 before arriving at the country. I wanted… ~ Good value ~ Decent fashions I’m not even too fussed on material quality. I don’t give a shit if my dress is made from the finest silk of a baby silkworm fed on caviar. If it looks good, machine-washable, and comes cheap then it’s a 5 stars in my book. I do admit, Sportsgirl’s quality and style is very similar to Forever 21. However, the prices are absolutely outrageous. It’s like a bad marketing plan — pretending to be upmarket by raising the price tags when in reality, Sportsgirl, you are not Burberry. You are not Chanel. There is a niche open in Australia and perhaps this company should stick to it. Aside from that whole rant, if you do genuinely want to visit Sportsgirl despite the terrible quality to price ratio, this particular branch is conveniently located in Melbourne central — make a day of it.

I’m not exactly sure when it happened, but Sportsgirl got expensive. What once prided itself on being a good value chain store has attempted to go upmarket and with it, the prices have soared. This would be ok if the stock was any good. But it seems that Sportsgirl is always housing the same overdone boho numbers at extortionate prices. The type of clothing that looks good on the hangers, but doesn’t quite fit right. The Melbourne Central store is indeed decent in size, and the staff are helpful and suitably perky. There’s just no escaping the fact that this is a pretty average franchise.
