Ajisen Ramen is a massive international chain but each location has its own subtleties. The Melbourne Central AR has a pretty comfortable atmosphere with quite attentive staff. The noodles are tasty. It’s ramen. It’s hot. It’s delicious.

I’ve been to Bourke Street joint and loved the food so I knew I was going to like this Ajisen Ramen. Well, I like this one better! It’s newer for a start and very convenient for a pre-dinner/movie night, being in Melbourne Central… Large open plan with a combo of chairs and couches, table for 2, 4 or larger numbers; the lighting is set to my liking — not too dim and not too bright. We were starving so we decided to go for 2 entrees — Gyoza(I love them!) and Ikayaki, which is their grilled squid w/ponzu sauce and mayo. They were both really nice. For the main, we ordered their No. 1 Bento Box — the Grilled Salmon Bento. The Salmon was perfectly cooked and guess what? It included a serve of Gyoza as well! We’ll definitely go back…

I love Ajisen Ramen, but comparatively speaking this one in Melbourne Central slightly lacks. I would still go and recommend a nice bowl of ramen from this place to anybody, but maybe head over to the one on Bourke St instead. Atmosphere: Anybody who’s been to one of the restaurants will know that they have a pretty standard look — classy with long wooden tables and a half-open kitchen. This Ajisen Ramen, though, looks a lot fancier in particular for some reason. Customer Service: Got the job done, but was horribly unenthusiastic. Food: Normally, Ajisen Ramen has combos for value. For instance, one of the combos is Ramen + Entrée + Tea/Coke. This establishment for some reason was a lot more restrictive as to what you can pick and choose. As an example, the combo was tea only — you can’t have a soft drink instead. Why do some Ajisens allow it and others don’t? No clue. I normally order the Paiku Ramen which is delicious tenderloin pork. My meal was yummy, just what I expect from this chain. The pork however, we slightly rougher than other Ajisens I’ve been to. Nothing off-putting, just a quality drop that I’ve noticed. Overall, I would definitely come back. The quality definitely matches the price you pay for it and who wouldn’t want a nice bowl of ramen while shopping in Melbourne Central?
