What an odd place. I just don’t understand it at all. I’ve visited this place a few times now for lunch, so I feel like I’m finally ready to share my thoughts with you all. I think I’ll start with the ordering. You step through the doors and are shown to your table and handed the menu. Normal right? Yes, but what they don’t tell you is that no one will come to take your order; you’re expected to get up and order at the back. It isn’t like the place is ever especially busy, so I don’t see why they can’t take take your order while you’re seated like every other restaurant in the city. The next thing I find a bit strange is the menu and the pricing. Today, I thought I’d try their $ 14 lunch special; the picture looked kind of interesting when I was at the register and while I prefer not to spend too much for lunch, I thought I’d make an exception this time. I don’t want to make too many judgements about the food, because I know everyone has their own tastes, but the $ 14 special turned out to be a cold plate of 2-minute noodles with a few slices of tomato, a bit of shredded pork, half an egg, with a good squirt of mustard. It looked just like the kind of food a poor university student would make, and it certainly wouldn’t cost anywhere near $ 14! Some of the other menu items are decent though, so I don’t know. Maybe the«specials» are made by the new kitchen staff? Sometimes I leave feeling like I’ve gotten my money’s worth; today I didn’t. I’m not sure I want to come back.

I had the vegetarian miso ramen and although it didn’t taste traditional, it was so good! A+ on the noodles and bonus points for the available extra sides. It is a bit pricey for ramen though and be warned: CASHONLY

Two of us went for ramen last week. We ended up on and off the toilet for the next 24 hours, which was hardly worth it for such a mediocre product. We both had the tonkatsu shoyu broths. Nearby places have annoyingly long lines, but they’re probably worth it.

Vege ramen scored high, broth was savoury and flavoursome with generous amount of corn and delicious half-cooked egg. Chef forgot add our bamboo but got it out to us pronto so no worries. Add crushed garlic it will make your dish. Also got the sapporo miso ramen– the broth was tasty but a bit on the salty side. About right if you don’t drink the soup & just dip the noodles in. The thin noodles that come with this dish are slurpy delicious as well. Note the photos in the menu are pretty unappetising looking but never fear the actual dish that comes out looks much more appealing Also: Unlimited decent pickled kimchi is a plus. Also: Get the matcha crème brûlée for dessert, was freaking perfect. Smoky matcha paired so well with dark brown sugar syrup, ooh Also: Random shelf of manga comic books at the front. Too busy slurping noodles to check it out but looks like a broad selection if you’re up for some post dinner reading

We got here about 8.40pm tonight took about 5 minutes to get seated because it was so full which we didn’t mind at all and we had a pram so needed to wait for space. Once we sat down we decided to get the pan fried gyoza which was 12 for 8.50 which I think is a great price. We also got two number 12’s(Shoyu Chicken). Only took about 15 minutes to get our food which was great. They did get it wrong and only brought out one chicken and one pork and then came back out with the chicken one but placed two other things in front of us and then had to get that taken away as it wasnt ours. She did come back later and say sorry but you could tell they were working hard and all over the place but they were nice and service was good. I liked the whole atmosphere of the place. The food was great. My first time trying it so it was very different for me. I loved the chicken and the egg and think the broth had lots of flavor and was a bit salty but it was a soy sauce broth so to be expected. It was a bit loud but it being so busy you can’t really control that and really didn’t mind it at all. The gyoza came out stuck together and fell apart so that was a little disappointing but overall I would come back eith my family.

This place used to be very popular especially during lunch time. Now its empty, I guess due to a lot more competition. So Im back after a few months and trying the lunch specials. A combo of ramen, karaage and onigiri for only $ 9.80. Ramen portion was quite small, soup was nice and creamy. Karaage got too much batter in them. Onigiri was nice though. Also can drinks for $ 1. All in all, quite good for lunch.

The $ 9.80 lunch special for a bowl of ramen, fried chicken and an onigiri triangle is an absolute bargain. I had tonkotsu ramen and was a little disappointed with the broth. It tasted okay, but different to the authentic stuff and not like what I was anticipating. Still, I can’t complain too much for getting so much food for such a low price. Go here if you are very, very hungry and don’t want to spend a lot of cash.

This spot is larger than expected with a thick menu and many sake bottles. Guaranteed to find something to suit all tastes. Fried chicken ramen was spicier than anticipated which was a nice treat. I would probably request a thinner broth as normally I would be slurping it down but not when it is as thick as gravy. Heaps of toppings and a generous portion of noodles. This is a good meal in a casual setting. Also the service is super quick although I came after the dinner rush.

Again, I take my ramen seriously. This place had so much potential but was disappointed yet again. I saw this place as I was walking that same morning. I came back in high hopes this would satisfy my often reoccuring ramen craving. For some reason I ordered a small(who am I?) shio tonkotsu ramen. The food came out pretty fast. Cash only. Dislike. I didn’t like the noodles. The broth was mediocre. The meat was really good but I engulfed the pieces in a matter of seconds. The best part of the ramen was by far the egg. My friend didn’t want her egg and I gladly took that off of her bowl. I never thought I would say this but I’m glad I got a small ramen.

We needed some good ramen at 7:30PM to warm us up on a cold winter night and they got us in after 10 min. This is already a plus in my mind because we saw huge lines in another ramen joint and we didn’t think they were worth it. Once we sat down we looked through the huge menu and we ordered the karaage(fried chicken), takoyaki(octopus balls), miso ramen with pork belly and hotpot ramen. The karaage is made with dark meet so it’s juicy and crunchy! The takoyaki was pretty good as well, but I thought the octopus was a little rubbery. The miso ramen had a great broth that was meaty and packed a huge umami flavor punch. The hotpot ramen has a spicy broth, but also delicious. Ramen dishes included all the sides like egg and seaweed so you were not charged separately like other ramen joints. They also have vegetarian options for those who don’t eat meet.

Cold, cold weather needs large, large bowls of Ramen. This is a good place for a nice casual bowl. Big healthy servings in your favourite varieties. For my virgin voyage, I tried the Miso Pork Ramen. It had a subtle spicy kick and was in very good proportion. Add $ 2 and you get 3 Goyza. Japonese value meal style! Next time I will try the Curry Ramen. Limited stock, apparently. My favourite part of lunch was the perfectly soft cooked boiled egg. While the ramen can’t be compared to that of the ramen dens of Tokyo, the Australiana version was quite fine. Ps — there is a ramen burger on the menu with a fried noodle bun. Would love to know if anyone has tried it!

To be honest, there are other better ramen places around town. Unless you prefer a thick base soup, don’t bother visiting here. Their noodles are delicious but it’s not great enough to compensate for its soup. The decoration of the place is alright — nothing too fancy to admire. I don’t have much to say about this place just that it isn’t great but not too bad either. Would only have this place as an option if every other ramen place in town is full.

Absolutely charming décor. It’s like street food Japan with all the lanterns and posters and such. Loved dining in there. It’s a great find too! As for the menu = wow! There is HEAPS to pick from. And they all originate from different provinces in Japan. So I’ll be back again and again to try them. I ordered the corn and butter Raman — it’s pretty much what you think, corn and a block of butter you chuck into the pork broth that turns it into creamy NOM-ness. The other half had fried chicken ramen and that one is just as special! Also when I come back I’ll be trying out all their booze — they have a huge selection of sake! Tip — when you go in and get seated, make sure you go up and order/pay.

This little hidden treasure is such a good find. They have some fantastic food here. Went here for a nice dinner and was delighted so much with the food that presented itself to my table. Not really sure what I needed to order, but looking around the room I saw alot of the same dishes, and in the menu was a #1 must try, and sure enough it was that everyone was having. So I had to order it to see what the fuss was about. It was the Ramen noodes pork belly slice. Delicious, just packed full of flavor. We had this accompanied with gyoza. Just as delicious and full of flavor. This is a must try if your in the city, your belly’s will walk away satisfied and your wallet will thank you. Well priced and a good night out :)

I did a few searches for ramen places while I was in Melbourne and this place came up as one of the most buzzed/talked about — I immediately knew that as an out of towner I had to try it. I’ve been spoilt by the good ramen in Japan and sorry to also mention Sydney seems to fare a bit better for ramen — with places like ippudo ramen on the high end, or Gumshara ramen for normal day to day fare. However this place still is good and not to mention it’s cheap too(also note — you have to order at the counter, and cash only). I haven’t seen anything online better rated/raved/buzzed yet. The staff are mostly Japanese too(or at least can speak Japanese) which is a good sign of its authenticity. But a big defining factor is that not only this place has cheap food, they also are capable of serving alcohol(haven’t tried but did see it on the menus)

I’m not really sure what to make of this place, as I’m still sussing out the definition of Ramen. I’ve eaten several different incarnations to date, and I suppose, I’m still trying to find out the version that really work for me. I“m thinking clear flavoursome soup with heaps of veggies and noodles and some meat, and probably some spices to boot. Filling and tasty, without being to bland. I suppose this means I’ll have to do some further Investigations into the outcome of a most substantially sustaining and satisfying Ramen.

First time here really impressed me. We waited for about 20mins which was very bearable considering there was an event on Melbourne that night(White Night). Ordered the spicy pork broth with thin ramen and an extra pork belly slice. th broth was tasty and thick. Some might even say a little rich and heavy — especially after a few fried gyoza! The thin noodles were amazing. Light, silky smooth and obviously freshly made. Service was quick efficient and fairly friendly given how busy the place was! Of you’re fancying some Japanese noodles I would highly recommend this joint — even if there might be a wait — since it’s a long mile better than most quick Japanese joints in Melbourne.

OK after Ajisen Ramen remove the Set A/Set B from their menu, it is time to go Ramen Exploring ™. After seeing a mate post a random pic of Ramen of this joint on Facebook, it was time to give it a go. I got the Ramen with the Lot and I shouldn’t’ve. Holy crap the Ramen bowl is huge, I reckon there’s nearly twice as much Ramen in the bowl as a standard size serve. But, I did what I had to do and for the Unilocal community I ordered and proceeded to stuff my face. Orderage: * You grab a table and are presented the menu by waitstaff. You then have to go to the cashier and order your Ramen and drinks if preferred and are given a table number to place on table. Note that it is CASHONLY. Costage: * The lot was $ 23 /the number 14 was $ 15. So not the cheapest. Drinkage: Cold water is free. We were able to take a bottle to our table. There was a variety of cold drinks available. Foodage: * My Japanese-Canadian Ramen Buddy though the food was OK but nothing special. The noodles were OK but a touch bland. My «the lot» has soft shell crab plus everything. fried chicken nuggets :), prawn, mystery pink squirly seafood stick, pork belly, etc, etc. The noodles(apparently hand made) have been better in other Ramen places I’ve experienced. Servage: * Service was very friendly Roomage: * It was a little warm inside the restaurant today. Aircon could have been a little cooler. In short, ramen was OK however still on the lookout for killer Ramen. Need to check out more places for comparison, methinks.
