It’s been a struggle to find decent ramen here in Melbourne, but luckily I stumbled upon this place while shopping. Definitely warmed me up for the brisk afternoon. We first started with the beef carpaccio which was good, but not as thinly cut as you would find at most places. Still it was seared and seasoned well with an egg yolk dipping sauce. My cousin ordered the nabeyaki udon which seemed to be good to her liking. Not a salty broth like we’ve been experiencing at most places. She really enjoyed her tempura pieces as well. I ordered their house Men-Tei Ramen which was pretty good as well. I would want to try the tonkatsu ramen next time I’m around. Their egg was softly boiled to perfection and I was pretty satisfied. The chashu wasn’t as seasoned as I hoped it would be, but it definitely hit the spot for us to continue the day of shopping. The service was really nice and were always so quick to refill my water which I really appreciated.

Pretty good Japanese fare with nice sashimi and basic ramen, one of the better ramens of the eastern suburbs but not quite as good as some in the city. The noodle had good bite but has a fragrance that reminded me of packet noodles, egg was hard boiled. Good for a quick cheap meal.

My favourite Japanese place. I’ve been here about 20 times and the food is consistently good. The service is very very attentive(sometimes can be a bit much eg. Sip your water and someone has already filled it again) but lovely. We’ve never had a problem getting a table, it usually has a short busy spell at 7:30pm and is quite free either side. I always order the curry tofu don. Their tofu is exception, house made and silky and compliments the curry sauce perfectly. I especially love the fresh pickled ginger on the side. Nothing like the overly punchy ginger from the sushi shops. It’s sweet and has bite! The yasai croquette and agadashi tofu are some of my fav entrées also. My partner swears by the ramen. He has had every one so far and can’t go past the pork. I’m counting down until my next visit this week!

Great Japanese spot for dinner in the hood. This place is a lot more than just ramen, don’t let the name fool you! Casual, inexpensive and easy going staff. All of the entrees are delish– we’ve had almost every one on the menu! The soft shell crab is tasty and the tempura platter is great. Great selection of Japanese beers, shochu and plum wine(which I love!) As I mentioned, the staff are lovely. We were there on New Years Eve(I know, not flash, but we had a great night) and the owner(who was cooking) came over at the end of our meal, gave us a beer to share and chatted with us and very kindly wished us a propserous new year. Very sweet and kind. He’s originally from China, but trained as a chef in Japan! Delish place, definitely worth popping in if you’re keen for authentic Japanese cooking that won’t make a huge dent in your wallet.
