I’ve ordered from here quite regularly and found the food acceptable. Yes, the main road carries trucks, most do but what sets this place apart is the fact you can hear the Chef yelling out orders, the smell of food being made and the quaintness of having a mid restoration feel. Yes it’s not the high end, it’s Highgate Hill dining.

Thai on High is a go-to takeaway option at my place, not just because it’s in walking distance from us. Their food is well-priced, with nothing on the takeaway menu over $ 20, and they do some really delicious salads. The ‘Yum Too Hoo’ — warm tofu salad with fresh herbs, onions, shallots, roasted ground peanuts and lemon juice — is a real favourite. My pick of the curries is their ‘Jungle Curry’, a spicy reddish dish which doesn’t use coconut milk. I think it goes particularly well with the prawns. Their turnaround isn’t the quickest I’ve ever seen, often taking over twenty minutes. But it’s worth the wait.

Thai on High does not have a heavenly look about it as the name suggests. Rather, it looks like a bit of a dive, with a kitchen converted from what looks like it was a take-away and plastic table cloths on cheap wooden chairs and tables. It is redeemed only by its meal prices, which are low enough for the budget conscious student like me. Nothing is over $ 15 and their curries and stir-fries taste like they should be worth at least $ 20. No need to book if you are dining in as it is usually pretty quiet, most people opting for take-away, so the food comes out quick and the quiet waitresses are very friendly. It’s BYO and there is a very convenient bottle shop just two shops down in the small shopping strip if you do want to dine in with a few beverages.
