Gypsy Tapas House

We came here last night pre Fringe World show and had a few tapas as we were feeling slightly peckish — we had the pork belly, cannelloni, and squid and chorizo. All tapas are exactly the same price of $ 9.50. The vibe is very Fremantle in a little back courtyard, cute lights, plastic chairs, paper printed menus, a little band was playing — so the vibe was pretty cool too. The pork belly was dry and well for the portion size $ 9.50 was slightly hefty — the cannelloni was yum and very cheesy filled with mushroom ragu and the squid and chorizo was very basic and not much flavour. In saying all this I would love to come and try it again and maybe do the 15 of the chefs favourite a for $ 45 per head — sounds interesting!

Absolutely loved dinner here on Saturday night! Had a booking for two and tried many of the deliciously appetizing options on the menu — and only paid $ 43 each! Could not believe it. This was including a glass of red, each.
Great service, relaxed and beautiful atmosphere with a live band out in the courtyard area of the restaurant. Highly recommend for something different and vibrant. I traveled from Mount Hawthorn, would definitely do the drive again.
P.S — they also do split billing :)

I called in just to check out the menu. I’m always looking for gluten-​free options. Decided to stay and try it out. So glad I did. Marvellous GF bread, and the two tapas I’ve had — so far, I’m definitely having more even though I don’t need them! — are delicious. Very glad I live nearby, I’ll be back.

I really wanted to like this place, but couldn’t help but find it only ok. We had dinner there on a rainy night so we were all inside with a band that was playing really way too loud. The sangria was average, as were the veggie plates we got.

This place is a 5 because it represents the style of Fremantle to a T!
Relaxed, a little hippyish, lots of character and music playing to the restaurant.
The menu is tapas style and the servings can be deceiving. They look small at first but they fill you up quickly.
I love the ambiance of this joint and the service is quaint.
The many options of cheese is always going to win with me.
You get some bread with each of the tapas meals and the food is original and doesn’t leave you feeling too heavy.
You can also get a jug of the white sangria which is beautiful and I want to come back one summer night and enjoy.
Overall perfect place to go and get all sentimental and experience Fremantle.

The food is great here — price and taste.
The staff are vibrant, fun and friendly.
The atmosphere is great especially when they have live music and get everybody up and dancing.
Such a cool vibe, I love coming here!

Yum yum and yum. Make sure you try the delicious tapas here. We went on a Friday night and it was super, live music, great staff and some of the best tasting little plates in Australia!
We would highly recommend making a night of it soon before the secret gets out on this hot spot in Freo!

I loved Gypsy Tapas House! Perhaps my favourite tapas bar in Perth so far (although I am beginning a quest to find them all after I have recently discovered my love for them)!
And at $ 9 per tapa, you really can’t complain! There is a very sizeable menu and I’m sad to say I only got to try 5, but I will definitely be back for the rest.
What I love so much about this place is the atmosphere. I came on a weeknight from memory (no booking required) and were seated quite promptly. There was a jazz band playing, which immediately ticked boxes for me. We chose to sit outside as it was a beautiful night, and you can’t help but feel like you’re at a house party in someone’s backyard — there is an intimate but casual feel, mismatched chairs and coloured lightbulbs scattered through the air.
The service was great all night, the staff were friendly and helpful, and the food was exceptional! We ordered the lamb ribs, the beef cheeks, the goats cheese ravioli, the spiced chicken and the tomato stuffed crab between 2, which was the perfect amount. The food was full of flavour, well cooked and just fun and interesting. The sangria wasn’t half bad either!
The standout dishes for me would either be the sticky cheek or the goats cheese ravioli — both absolutely beautiful, and packed full of flavour. All in all, it was a great night out. Gypsy Tapas House combines a fun and relaxed atmosphere, great food and great music for very reasonable prices — I can’t wait to go back!

«$ 9 per tapa» is really great value for Perth! Throw in some live music, friendly staff and the cutely miss-​matched plates everything is served on and you have a great night out. Watch out for the sangria! You won’t notice it’s affect til you get up.
Top 3 Tapas to go back for are definitely the oven baked feta cheese which comes with a touch of tomato purée! 5 spice chicken with couscous, we were fighting over who would get to eat the last piece. And the beef cheek, cooked to perfection, melt in your mouth goodness.
One I was excited about but that was a bit of a let down was the blue cheese figs. I was thinking fresh figs with crumbled blue cheese. But it ended up being dried figs stuffed with too much blue cheese, was too overpowering.
Great place for a group outing, something to share for everyone!

I found this to be difficult to rate. 3 star for food but 1star for value. We went for the banquet and was very disappointed that we were served only 5x$ 9 tapas. so why order a banquet? Very stingy on servings and stingy on the higher valued tapas such as meats and seafood. Plenty of the cheaper tapas but few exotic tapas. It is as if they were cutting back to save money. The Jugs of Sangria for $ 30 must rate as the most expensive drinks on this planet. Little to no alcohol and Lots of squash.
Our meal cost us $ 60pp but we ended up more hungrier and more sober than we went in.
The food, had it been served as «unlimited» as the menu stated would have been a great deal however as the night got longer so did the wait for dishes, making it nearly impossible for them to serve any more than 5 dishes.
Overall. a great idea, great ambience but low to average service (by the Owners 4 and 11 year old children!)
I love Spanish food especially tapas and Sangria. It was a real shame that this restaurant did not live up to its hype and menu

Tossing up between a 4 and a 5 for this joint, I posed the question to my man. His initial response of «4.5» was unhelpful, his second response was more so. He said «they’re not perfect but gee they’re fun!!» Exactly right. What a fantastic night out, with lovely affordable tapas, good service and joyful folky tunes. I love heading there with a group of mates. It is sure to delight.
So why not five stars I hear you ask. Well, the food is good but not phenomenal and there can be a slight lack of consistency. Still, you’d be hard pressed finding a better vibe and destination for a celebration in Freo. Cheers.

What a cool and interesting place nestled off a busy square in Fremantle. The waiters and waitresses were attentive and quick to deliver our food and remove the dirty dishes as we finished them. There’s a choice to sit inside in two different rooms or outside in the brick courtyard. I liked the food — such a great mix of tapas but I found the live singing a little loud in the room I was sitting in so I couldn’t hear my friends’ conversation very well.
Not too expensive and a casual setting, make sure you book in advance and go with an appetite!

This is a funky tapas bar in a chilled out cove on the outskirts of central Freo.
The live music dances across the tables that invite all who pass by. The menu is exotic, if you think Spanish food is exotic and the flavours that come out of the kitchen are good however time is not of the essence so if making a date to dine here be prepared to feast on the ambiance.. . and then your meal.
I wandered through this establishment last week by chance and am delighted I did so. With an intimate inside seating area as well as a romantic, outdoors section, on a couch under the stars enjoying a sangria and some antipasto delights, that’s my kind of bar.

The price of food here is definitely an attraction when you consider the cost of other meals in the area.
There is a great atmoshphere and everyone is very friendly and welcoming.
I was underwhelmed with the food. When it came out it did not look appetising and the amount of oil was just unbelievable. It did not taste too bad but my expectations of tapas are always a bit high and my tastebuds had already set themselves up for a big hit.
I would recommend it for a change from the normal dining experience in Freo but I don’t think I would recommend the food. Maybe if you avoid the oily dishes you will be fine, I eman you can’t really go wrong with turkish bread and babaganoush.
