Five Dock has a strong Italian influence, and this place is one of the few Asian restaurants(and only Japanese, if I’m not mistaken) in the area. The nice thing is, it remains open relatively later compared to the other cafes along Great North Road. (Funny, according to the website they’re closed on Mondays? But I could swear we came here on a Monday.) Anyway, the place was around 1⁄5 full when we arrived and we were seated promptly. I ordered the Wagyu Tenderloin Deluxe Bento. This dish comes with: wagyu prime tenderloin meat with mixed vegetables. Includes miso, salad, dessert, sashimi, sushi, tempura prawn, tempura veggies. For $ 25.50 it seems a bit pricy for Japanese but it’s a good deal considering the bento is quite big! The food was pretty much standard Japanese fare. It was okay — not bad, but not really the best I’ve had. Service was good. All in all a good restaurant — I won’t be rushing to bring my friends here to try it out, but it’s a decent neighborhood place to pop by if I’m desperately craving for Japanese.

This little place is newly renovated and opens up like a bit of a jewel box inside. The décor is attractive but minimal enough not to overwhelm the relative tininess of the restaurant. We had bento box selections which were generous portions and every component was good — even the sushi included was fresh. It wasn’t cheap but it wasn’t outrageous, and the food quality was consistent with the cost. The addition of a japanese offering here is welcome in a strip where there’s only a small but varied selection of food genres.
