Excellent service! The staff were friendly and we were treated very well especially as I had my enthusiastic 6month old who was hungry. We had the jalapeño poppers, strawberry and haloumi salad and sweet potato fries to share. These were perfect for a light meal. The salad was outstanding, particularly the agave dressing though we were underwhelmed by the jalapeño poppers. There weren’t enough jalapeño or perhaps they were finely chopped in the potatoes. It would have been more apt to name the dish potato croquettes with some jalapeño. The salad outshone the poppers though so we didn’t mind it too much. All in all, we had a lovely time though and will gladly return.

Well, to start with, I had the best martini I’ve had in Perth here, using Noble Cut Gin. It shows that a martini can be flavourful, not just boozy. It still packed a punch, though! Everything I want in a martini. Lance and I arrived on a Friday afternoon in the happy hour slot, which meant jazz on the decks and free bar snacks being walked around. We had a mini meatball and a shot glass of prawn gazpacho whilst having our cocktails. Having not eaten lunch, Lance was starving, so despite dinner being on the cards for a few hours’ time, we thought we’d order a few bar snacks. Not being one to pass up a soft-shelled crab, or a bao, we ordered a soft shelled crab bao and the current trend doing around the Instagramverse especially in the US — ramen coated fried chicken in a milk bun. Both were the exact level of crunch and cook that you want in fried foods. Crispy, not oily and perfectly moist. The accompanying sauces were spot-on also — I loved the fermented coleslaw. As expected from a bar-restaurant attached to a wine shop, the wine list is very impressive. Not expansive, but full of delightful local and imported items you won’t find at your normal bottle shop. When everyone else arrived, we ordered a bottle of rose and some charcuterie — duck bresaola and a chicken and whiskey parfait that were delightful and well accompanied with fruits and cornichons. For«mains» we ordered pork belly(delightfully, more like a roast bacon rather than cumbersome cubes for sharing), duck with maple and pickled orange and a strawberry and haloumi salad. Each dish was well-balanced with sweet, rich, acidic and salty elements and I would happily have ordered every single dish again. Although probably not, because I want to try so many of the other dishes! For dessert we all shared 2 between the 5 of us. The sticky carrot pudding was a carrot-cake/sticky date pudding hybrid with a fabulous cumin bite. The strawberry ice cream sandwich familiar and novel all at once. The only slight issue I have with Young George is that it is really loud in there — much louder than just ambient noise, which, when you have a table full of people who have hearing issues at the best of times made for some strained conversation.

Gorgeous food, very well presented. Staff were friendly, if a little rushed off their feet. Great wine selection. Must recommend the strawberry and haloumi salad — was divine!

Hands down one of my favourite restaurants in Perth. It helps that this quirky little place is just down the street from me, but convenience isn’t the only reason I love this place. I’ve been here on many different occasions, sometimes for a coffee, a full on meal, or just for drinks, and each time there are new menu options that surprise and delight. For a nice morning tea they have a ginger cake to die for, and we like to go on Tuesdays for good pizza & beers for just $ 15(of course we always end up buying more than just pizzas!). They have amazing milk bun ramen fried chicken sliders and the best olive oil cake for dessert. The great thing about this place is that the menu is never the same, but that can also be the bad thing if you find something you fall in love with on the menu, which you inevitably will! To top it off, they have a great selection of beers on tap and make beautiful and unique cocktails. I love the quirky retro furniture, screen printed walls, petrol drums for tables, and even a cellar downstairs. The wine store next door is great also with an amazing selection of wines and even cheeses from around the world. Proud to call Young George our local, we will certainly be back!

Yeah really great food as well as beer and wine selection. As it was a Friday night, the place was packed(make sure you book and Dimmi lets you do it instantly so why wouldn’t you?!) and therefore pretty loud because of the wooden floors. I really liked the décor and feel about it, very neighbourhood, as you would expect given its address on George St. The beer selection as good, yet nothing draught(or that i could see!), but the mix of craft beers from all over Aus and the world was decent. I enjoyed the Temple Bruer Bicycle Beer and the Bristol Factory Vintage Ale. The wine list = stellar. Great mix of Australian vs New World and lots of really interesting wines, both by the glass and in bottle. So, food is share style coming out whenever you like. With four of us dining, we got a good cross section of the menu offering. — beef oyster blade, shaved Manjimup pickled walnut, onion chutney 34 — duck steak, caramelised fennel & smoked ham hock, maple, pickled orange — goat cheese gnocchi pops, lemon, thyme, olive mayonnaise — smokey pork cheek, fermented cabbage, apple, gochujang, maple, grains plus two two great vegie offerings of — Albany asparagus, goats cheese, shaved almonds, — Haloumi, strawberries, balsamic, water cress LOVED it!

Over the last year or so we have been to Young George a number of times, the first being a Unilocal event. Each time has been a better experience than the last. Tonight’s visit cemented the venue as our new go-to place. Our previous visits have seen inventive food and perfect service. Tonight it was better. With the Engineer in tow, the Über Blonde and I braved the appalling weather and reserved a late afternoon uppity table. The all-day menu is replete with every possible combo — duck, scallops, pork cheek and an array of vegetable offerings. We dived in and ordered the Roasted Cauliflower($ 17.50), Pork Cheek($ 24) and Andouille Meatballs($ 18.50). I must say that the Roasted Cauli is one of the better dishes I have had — moist, seared, crisp floret’s served on a cauli purée. Absolute winner. The Pork Cheek arrived on a bed of pickled red cabbage and was a crisp and tart delight. Thinly sliced and crunchy, the cabbage was a perfect foil against the pig. The meatballs appeared in a bath of black eyed peas, croutons and veal stock gravy. The veal meatballs were slightly rare but perfectly tender and had a unique, gamey flavour. Another winner. Still hungry(there was a growing 14 year old present after all) we ordered the Roasted Carrots($ 15.50). Presented under a layer of roasted, crunchy chickpeas and sitting on a bed of mashed carrot, the tender chunks of roasted carrot were a perfect dénouement to a spectacular dining experience. The only downside is their unfortunate decision to move the wine list to a local focus as opposed to the fab international offerings we had previously enjoyed. But that’s an East Fremantle thing I think. The East Freo locals are not overly experienced in «foreign wines» and seek restos with comfort zone wine list — Barossa, Swan Valley etc. Boring but hey if your money is in local peeps then you submit. Young George has matured into an exquisite dining experience and you need to go — but go the early for a quiet, relaxing dining treat. Just don’t expect any palate challenging wines.

I finally made it back to Young George for the first time after one of my most favourite Unilocal Elite events, and it didn’t disappoint. Hubby and I sat downstairs on the beanbags to eat, and it was exactly the sort of setting we were after as we weren’t in the mood for a sit down dinner but just wanted a bit of time out to ourselves and enjoy good food. We thoroughly enjoyed our mushroom pizza and chips and aioli. We had the mac and cheese as well, which was good, but I wouldn’t rave about it. I think we will definitely be back!
