Nice bananas. Not too firm or soft. You wouldn’t think these came from a shed.

The slightly tragic type of the signage drew me in from across the road. Behind is the most inviting fruit shop on Rathdowne. It feels a little claustrophobic at first with things hanging from the ceiling around you, but overcoming the initial apprehension is worth it. Best of the seasonal fruits, with bananas and oranges stacked out the front, and the narrow shop goes deep with refrigerated parts for yoghurts and more.

The Fruit Shed is the place to grab a banana and some of the strongest chilli in the neighbourhood. Dried and hanging from the roof, this chilli packs a punch. I have a few chilli snob friends(I’m not sure if this is a boast or not…) and I was put onto the Fruit Shed by them. These chillies are evil, I tells ya. If you’re into the calmer side of digestion, they stock some delicious organic yoghurt and the ‘ol favourite fruit and veg. You can’t miss this place; it’s all covered in wood and has a gorilla guarding the bananas. Another treat is they sell super-cheap flowers — $ 4 for a bunch of tulips! Grand!
