Brunswick Flour Mill

The Brunswick Flour Mill is a decent sized café which does an all day breakfast. I used to live above a shop nearby and would frequent the Flour Mill regularly. Since moving off Sydney Rd I tend to spread myself around many of the other cafes in the area but the flour mill is a reliable fall back, especially if you’ve gone a little crazy at Savers across the road.
The banana and mixed berry smoothies are excellent ($ 6) and their coffee is reasonable. They roast with Atomica beans if that means anything to you. The meals are substantial in size and are priced from around $ 10-​$ 20. They stock a good selection of cabinet food, mostly cakes, muffins and a variety of paninis. Outside peak hours, the table service is quick and efficient, but not super friendly.

Came for lunch which was a pretty good vege burger. Coffee was okay, a solid ⁶⁄₁₀. The burger could’ve been a little firmer however came with a side of well presented wedges. I had to ask for a condiment.
Prices were good as was the selection. All day breakfast is always a nice option if you’ve had a late one the night before. Plenty of sandwiches on offer for the daytime worker crowd available for under $ 10.

An excellent place for breakfast and coffee. The food is consistently very good. Décor is timber and brick with blackboard menus. Outside seating on Sydney Rd would be noisy so I always sit inside.

A few negative reviews on Unilocal almost made me want to find somewhere else for breakfast, but the lure of a reasonably priced and delicious sounding French Toast with bacon and banana was too much to resist.
We grabbed a seat outside, right on Sydney Rd, not the nicest of places to sit but the sun was out and there was plenty of people watching to be done. We were promptly served and our coffee orders taken. As I perused the menu (not that I needed to, I already knew that the French toast would not be topped this morning) our coffees arrived in no time.
Breakfast was ordered and before too long our orders were in front of us. The meals were huge and the silence at the table for most of the time we ate is testament to how tasty they were. Leisha T’s Breakfast Hot Plate looked fantastic with the perfect amount of haloumi (the perfect amount is LOTS, just in case you were wondering) and my French Toast tower of delicious was just that. Smashed banana, crispy bacon, sweet maple syrup, toasted pecans hidden throughout and fresh strawberries. It was probably a good thing that the rest of the day was spent walking around Sydney Rd, after that feast!

I’ve been coming here on and off for a few years, the coffee has been consistently ⁷⁄₁₀ and I’m quite happy with that. Lately the service has lifted its standard, the menu offers the usual light lunch options. Today I chose the grilled chicken and vegetables in flat bread. Coffee and food arrived promptly, the flat bread and filling, tasty. This place is hard to get into on the weekend so do yourself a favour, try breakkie during the week or a quiet Monday lunchtime like today.

I want to write a positive review of Brunswick Flour Mill to even out the playing field from the other reviews.
I’ve been twice to Flour Mill, which in itself should indicate that it’s better than two stars. I went back of my own free will, and enjoyed both times.
Most recently, I actually had standout service. After receiving coffee but between ordering and receiving food I had to race home and let an electrician into our apartment. Meanwhile, my partner stayed at breakfast and asked to have them keep it warm while I was gone. When I returned, I had my breakfast remade fresh. Super impressive, they didn’t need to do that, it was my own fault I had to leave.
Okay onto the stats. Here’s my thoughts:
Coffee: ³⁄₅ — while I’ve had better, it’s nice enough and does what it needs to
Food: ⁴⁄₅ — Egg whites aren’t runny and bacon is cooked to my liking. Good sized meals.
Menu: 3.5÷5 — pretty stock standard, but does have some nice options
Staff: ⁴⁄₅ most of the staff are really friendly and accommodating
Atmosphere: ⁴⁄₅ I enjoy being here, not too crowded, nice amount of space, good location
Price: ⁴⁄₅ I find it to err on the good side of average
Alright that seems about it. All I know if, I went to this place despite the not so great reviews and am really glad I did. Will go back, will have a good feed.
