Walked into this cosy restaurant where we were seated up the back. It was comfortable little two seater. The service was very good. Ended up ordering the Tuscan eggs and the hot cakes: flavour blueberries which were scrumptious at around $ 34 all up. The eggs were pretty good but not super spectacular although the mix of goats cheese, pancetta, tomato and rocket flavours was a great mix. Definitely recommend: 8⁄10. The hot cakes were cooked to perfection and the fruits added a nice touch: 8⁄10. However the lovely waitress offered us a complimentary pannacotta as they were offering it the next day and they made a tester and gave it to us which just made the visit special. The pannacotta was cooked to perfection, pretty good for a tester, the mix of biscuit crumble on the bottom, custard mixture in the middle and the passionfruit jelly top was delicious: 10⁄10. Overall this visit was a 9⁄10 as the food was excellent and the service was top notch. Would come back here if we wanted to splurge on a breakfast again

So after drooling over their Instagram pictures all week I finally tripped right across the city to visit and try these AMAZING hotcakes! The presentation was beautiful with lots of flowers and I hear the menu for serving the hotcakes is constantly changed up. The girls working were lovely and chatty, which I appreciated considering I was on my own. Sitting in the front window meant I could watch the goings by on Sydney Road while I enjoyed my meal.

Love Maddox. Amazing food with constantly changing specials that are always unique and delish. The chef is a genious! Great coffee and service as well as a beautiful setting. One of the best in Brunswick by far — don’t miss out

Was really excited to check this place out especially after seeing the great sounding menu though I doubt I’ll be going back. Service while friendly was very slow, we had to ask for them to take our order after sitting there twiddling our thumbs for what seemed like an hour(we were hungry!). The Asian Mushrooms was ok though I didn’t love the flavours and the fried beancurd was very oily. The lamb ragu was very lamby, not pleasantly so and also quite bland. Highlight was the berry custard crumble, that was delicious and the aioli which was nice and garlicky. Very nice layout to the place and loved the comfy chairs and decoration overall. Might return if I’m in the area but wouldn’t go out of my way.

Maddox opened a few months ago, totally refurbished, nothing like the Internet café in its previous life. I first popped in about 2 months ago for a quick coffee and put it onto my ‘go back to ’ list. The refurbishment has created an eating area at the front with a central see through kitchen, another middle eating area and outside. The tables look to be purpose built with one communal table in the front window area. There is a lot of light coming through the large front windows, and the metal pressed ceilings have been retained. The Asian Chicken Salad was perfect to have on what seems to be the first hot day for ages, just the right amount, the salad crunchy and the chicken, melt in the mouth. The menu reads– ‘Free range poached chicken with coriander, mint, chilli, coconut, daikon and crispy shallots on glass noodles.‘ I am usually wary of anything with coconut as it invariably overpowers a dish and tends to make everything soggy. This dish had a perfect balance and hit the spot.
