Good smooth hot coffee. Quick service, they obviously have regulars the girl behind me just handed over her money and was gone in a flash. Love that you can text your order in!

You will get a good coffee from this tiny, but great espresso bar — and you’ll get a discount if you’re «only» having a long black — it costs less than other varieties of the same size, love that! Thanks, I’ll be back.

First impressions. The girl behind the counter doesn’t seem pleased to see me. Would a smile hurt? Place is empty at 3pm except for one table. They don’t stock cream or stevia. So I ordered a short black. It’s bitter & not in a good way. Slight aftertaste of battery acid.

Great atmosphere and seating, and good, fast coffee! Also priced conveniently in even dollar amounts. Can also text in your order in advance.

If you’re in the city on a weekday and are after a jolt of caffeine somewhere that’s a little hidden away yet still easy to access, then head along to Espresso Republic. It’s tucked down Gresham Lane(joining Adelaide Street to Queen Street). The coffee here is pretty bang-on, and the baristas are super friendly and perky(no matter what hour of the day). Having passed the store several times, I decided to venture for a sneaky sandwich and coffee. The barista sincerely apologised saying that food was no longer being served(it was about 3pm) but made me a good, strong coffee instead. Due to its laneway location, it’s best suited to pumping out takeaway coffees and simple meals(an assortment of toasted sandwiches and banana bread). So if you’re after somewhere to unwind and read the paper, I’d suggest either grabbing a takeaway or finding somewhere else for lunch — or battle the crowds for a seat under the umbrellas out the front.
