I know this place is an institution. And back in its prime, many famous people dined here. But that doesn’t mean you should. Check Trip Advisor reviews to back me up on this. The food was just not very good. We ordered the eggplant pie with döner, eggplant salad, the lamb, and the chicken pudding for dessert. The food came out so fast that it couldn’t possibly have been freshly prepared. Some might like that it comes out super fast, but it made me concerned about food quality if everything is batch prepped and just doled out. The chicken pudding was interesting, the lamb was lukewarm and nothing special, and the favorite was the eggplant pie, but even that wasn’t so memorable. This place is just way past its prime and you’re better off dining at Hamdi if you’re looking for a nice and delicious meal.

Want to feel like you’re back in the 1960’s hanging out with the world’s jet set? Then step into Pandeli’s. Clients included the likes of Aristotle Onassis, Maria Callas, Jackie Kennedy and more recently former French President, Francois Mitterand. In the unlikely location of the second floor of the Egyptian Spice Bazaar, with a very unassuming door, once you step inside, views of the Bosphorus are all around you as well as traditional Turkish tiles as décor, Pandeli makes you feel like someone important. And you are. Turks place a huge emphasis on hospitality and it does’t lack here in the least. The staff are courteous and polite and the food, if overrated at times, is still fresh, tasty and won’t break the bank. After exploring the treasures of Sultanahmet, this is a great place to stop for lunch and soak in the atmosphere.
