Kafi Dihei

Excellent experience. Friendly people, good food, nice ambiance, and free WiFi. I stopped in here after many hours traveling from the U.S. and it was a great choice. Enjoyed my meal slowly, then moved to one of the couches to read for a bit. I’ve never seen a place like this in the U.S.

One of my favorite spots in Zurich. Cute décor, relaxed atmosphere, friendly staff, lovely food. They have a nice selection of teas (proper tea, not that Lipton dishwater you find in 90% of Zurich restaurants), several delicious desserts, homemade iced teas and lemonade, and always at least one gluten-​free dessert choice — very, very grateful for that, especially for the amazing Orange Almond Cake!
The food is simple and freshly made, the ladies always friendly and laid back; and though it is pretty close to the center, it’s not really loud or bothered by excessive traffic. Really nice, quiet spot for a chat, a coffee date, or just to enjoy a relaxing breakfast or cup of tea with a book.
Love Dihei, will keep coming back :-)

Excellent outside seating area, located in a calm neighborhood (a bit far from the bus station) that made me think of the west village in New York.
The place was busy with locals and their toddlers. It is very family oriented although I saw also a lot of hipsters.
The menu isn’t large but it is enough for a morning meal to please anyone. (Ask for the menu in english).
I went for the bircher muesli (8chf) which is very local dish, with red berries, nuts, grated apples and whipped cream. It was delicious and fresh, very satisfying on a warm day. It is served with 2 slices of homemade bread loaf and you can ask for some butter (extra 1chf)
The coffee was decent but not exceptional which I expected so I don’t blame them.
The place was busy but we didn’t wait for a table as we came a bit later than the formal breakfast time.
It is a charming place which I would definitely recommend for a brunch or breakfast for their beautiful (almost kitch) setting and servings.

Super cool place with lovely décor. Staff is friendly and make great coffee. The cake was really good. Expect it to be crowded. Good for nice conversation. Not ideal for sitting and working.

I found Kafi Dihei on Unilocal and am so glad I did! They have amazing pancakes on the weekends. They are always different and always yummy. It gets rather warm inside so we try to sit outside when it’s not freezing. There are blankets and on the best days, visits from Sira the cat. Everything we’ve tried is fresh and delicious (large breakfast, pancakes, lamb burger, raspberry cheesecake, etc). English menu available and daily specials.

Erinnert mich an die Vollpension in Wien! Café in Oma s Wohnzimmer style gemütliche Sofas und gutes Frühstück und Kuchen! An netten Cafés mangelt es nicht in Zürich, dieses hier bietet aber auch sehr gutes selbstgebackenes Brot und andere Köstlichkeiten an! Definitiv ein Besuch wert, empfehlenswert ist das Bircher Müsli!

Excellent location, as the name indicates, you are almost at home.
The food is of very good quality, service excellent, and ambiance casual.
I can recommend the burger (even if really expensive, it is worth its price) and the waffle.
They always have 2 – 3 specials!

Favorite brunch spot in town. The food is fresh and delicious. Watch out for the bees outside. they like the jelly as much as you will. The atmosphere is quaint and lovely for a Saturday or Sunday morning.

Kafi Dihei is probably one of my favourite spots in Zurich! I absolutely love coming here, it’s so cozy, cute and laid back that it feels like a little mini-​holidays from every day busy life.
The café is close to Ida Platz, with a super cute Granny-​style-​interior and picturesque outdoor area where you can enjoy the delicious treats they serve, whether that’s the super tasty veggie omelette, the mind blowing cheese cake or a delicious high tea!
The staff is lovely, always friendly and helpful and also very very fast, especially given how full the place can be on a Sunday morning/​afternoon.

Genial man fühlt sich wie in einem Wohnzimmer von einer alten Frau. Ganz viele schöné alte Möbelstücke.

Breakfast as it should be, and until 16:00 hrs. Where have you been Kafi Dihei, Zurich was waiting for you a looooong time.
Had the Zmorge dihei mit Kater…, good choice, bacon, eggs, wedges, bread, onion jam, maple sausage (did I forget something?)… THAT holds you over for the day. Just perfect ! Until I saw the cakes… too bad I did not have space for these anymore. Will be back for after noon tea then :-).

Das Kafi Dihei mausert sich zu einem meiner Lieblingsorte in Zürich.
Bei schönem Wetter kann man draussen sitzen und man fühlt sich, wie im eigenen Garten, mit den coolen Stühlen, den herzigen Tischchen und ganz viel Grün um einen herum. Einzig vor den Spatzen muss man sich in Acht nehmen, die frechen Tierchen versuchen immer wieder, gratis mitzuessen.
Wenn es einem zu kalt wird, kann man auch drinnen super verweilen und es ist einfach kuschelig und cool eingerichtet. Besonders witzig fand ich das Klo, hier gibt es einen Vogelkäfig, mit fake-​Vögeln, und wenn man die Tür öffnet, zwitschert es. Zudem gibt es einen Old-​School Radio, der hier andere Musik abspielt.
Die Bedienung ist mega freundlich und kann auch auf Englisch super weiterhelfen.
Besonders empfehlen kann ich die Tees, welche man in der Kanne serviert bekommt. Ich hatte einen Ingwertee, mit frischem Ingwer und dazu einem Schälchen Honig. Auch der warme Chèvre war gut, wobei der Salat mich mehr überzeugt hatte als der Chèvre, aber das ist ja Geschmacksache.
Ich werde wiederkommen und meinen Herzog-​Status verteidigen. :)

Located in a quiet area this cozy café makes you feel like visiting your aunt or grandma. The plates, chairs and tables are mixed from different designs and gives the café a charming and personal touch. We shared three different cakes which were very tasty. I can recommend the fresh strawberry /​pie plant lemonade with mint, although it was quite a little bit expensive with 8,50 CHF.

War gestern mit Freunden dort Frühstücken! Das Essen war fabelhaft!!! Ich habe das grosse Z^morgen gegessen um CHF 15.50 und wurde wirklich satt. Eine Freundin hat die Pancakes des Tages gegessen, die waren ein Traum! Sie bieten auch Laktose freie Kaffeegetränke an und die Bedienungen waren auch nach unserem 3. Tisch wechsel nicht genervt! Etwas überfüllt, das darf einen aber auch nicht wundern bei dem tollem Essen!

This is my favorite brunch place in Zurich. The omelets and pancakes are particularly delicious. Make sure to check out the weekly specials on the board. They don’t take reservations on weekends, so I recommend either coming very early when they open or late (say after 1pm). With that in mind, you can ask if it’s okay to wait for the next available table, to which they will likely reply yes. During the summer, they have outdoor seating, so they can seat more people.

Wir haben uns am 1. Mai in dieses schöné Café verirrt. Die Bedienung freundlich, hilfsbereit und schnell. Der Kaffee ist toll und die Auswahl genial. Hier macht das verweilen Spaß.

A very cosy place that serves delicious food. An excellent place to start your Saturday morning!

We went here for the first time last Sunday for brunch with some friends, and they told us we had to arrive very early (before 09:30!) to be sure we’d get a table. They were right — it’s not a large place, which gives it a cozy feeling. But it’s the food that made getting up early worth it. Our coffee came very fast and was excellent. My vegi omelette was perfect, with lots of filling and the eggs cooked just right.
We were told they don’t take reservations, but other reviewers say they made one. I’ll have to try again to be sure. However, there’s outdoor seating for the summer, which should help the space shortage and let us sleep a bit later!

Als wäre ich bei Oma & Opa zu Besuch… Genau so war alles eingerichtet und dekoriert und man fühlte sich auch direkt gleich sehr wohl in diesem klein «Kafi».
Wir haben waren an einem SA da und obwohl der Laden voll war, wurden wir echt herzlich bedient. Der Service war sehr aufmerksam, also nix mit laaang laaange Wartezeiten. Das Essen kam sehr schnell :))
Bei uns gab es zwei Frühstücksteller mit Extrawünschen :) und alles hat super geklappt… Aber Achtung das Spiegelei kriegt man hier wirklich nur leicht gebratrn oder gekocht… was auch immer :)) also wenn man das Spiegelei lieber bisschen länger auf dem Herd mag, sollte man das kommunizieren. Ansonsten war alles tip top :))) ouu und der Cappucino mhhhmm richtig gut so wie es sein sollte!

Best brunch spot in Zurich. I recommend the omlettes. My friends have also suggested the lamb burger as a standard go-​to. I have turned several people on to this place. As mentioned the place is very small. Also good coffee, great scones and real croissants (no gipfeli!!!). Apparently during the week you get get the scones French from oven. I have yet to do this but it’s on my list.

Really, really enjoyed this place!!! It is probably the closest thing to an «American» brunch that I’ve experience in Switzerland. The food was delicious, portions quite generous, atmosphere fantasitc… it was such a hidden gem. We sat at a shared table with a gentleman who was just finishing his morning coffee, and we had the table to ourselves soon after. The restaurant, although small, was cozy and intimate… in a good way. I think the idea is to recreate the «I’m getting food at nonna’s» feel. There are communal newspapers and magazines that you can read while people come in and out for the coffee/​dessert (homemade!)/food.
We went for brunch, and I had an omelet, which came with a nice portion of fresh dressed greens and a couple slices of bread. The omelet was fluffy and filled with carmelized onions, cheese, and mushrooms. Reminded me of Sunday brunch with my friends back home.
The service was attentive and friendly. Highly recommend, and would definitely go back.

Es gibt diese Cafes, die man betritt und kaum glauben kann, wie wohl man sich auf Anhieb fühlt. Das Kafi Dihei ist zweifellos so eines. Winters wie Sommers ist die Gemütlichkeit des kleinen, äußerst schnuckeligen Cafés unschlagbar.
Viel wurde bereits über die wunderschöné, plüschige Einrichtung gesagt und so möchte ich heute ein paar Worte über den Garten verlieren. Efeuumrankt und liebevoll mit Blumenkästen begrünt, sitzt man dornrösschengleich auf weißen schnörkeligen Stühlen im bezaubernden Vorgarten. Und während drinnen ab und an rockige Musik aus den Lautsprechern dringt, gibt hier draußen die Natur ihr ganz eigenes Konzert. Dass man an der Straße sitzt, ist im Nu vergessen: Es zwitschert und tirilliert in einer Pracht und Vielfalt, dass einem ganz schwindlig werden könnte vor Glück. Dazu die pralle Sonne, die am Morgen noch gut verträglich auf den Kopf scheint (Achtung, wer empfindlich ist, reserviert an sonnigen Tagen besser einen der schattigeren Plätze an der Hauswand!) und der herrliche selbstgemachte Eistee — besser kann ein Tag kaum beginnen! Kaum, aber er kann — als nämlich das «Grosse Z´morge Dihei” — Frühstück eintrifft. Mit hausgemachtem Brot, 3-​Minuten-​Ei, Konfi, Minijoghurt, Käse und Schinken — der bei mir dank der freundlichen Frage der Kellnerin, ob ich als Vegetarier nicht lieber Gemüse statt noch mehr Käse möchte, in fantastische eingelegte Rote Beete und Auberginen umgewandelt wird.
Oh ja, es ist einfach herrlich hier! Das finden wohl auch die anderen Gäste, die fest auf ihren Plätzen verweilen und sich äußerst wohlzufühlen scheinen. Als ich zum Abschluss noch den ebenfalls selbstgemachten Verveine-​Pfefferminz-​Eistee bestelle, bin ich nicht mehr sicher, welchen ich besser finde, diesen oder den ersten. Egal — ich bin auf jeden Fall sicher, dass ich bald wiederkomme!
Das Kafi Dihei hat für mich definitiv das Zeug zum Lieblingscafé!

Really cool and cozy place for a Sunday brunch!
So we went there for brunch with a group of 4 adults and 2 children. We had to make reservation one week in advance as this place gets quickly booked.
Situated in a very nice neighbourhood in Zurich (walking distance from albisriederplatz) I would say that one of the things that characterize this place is the decoor, it’s made to make you feel at home. The place is a bit small but hey, it’s part of its charm.
The food was great ! The menu has a good variation and everything looked delicious :) We started with coffee (nothing to say there, great coffee), then I had the steak sandwich with caramelised onion filling which was perfectly cooked and really tender.
They have homebaked cakes which vary each day (some of us had a piece of the cheese cake and it looked delicious: P)
The service was fast and friendly, but prices were, as usual a bit high in these trendy brunch places

J’y suis passé une fois en été et c’était parfait. Belle terrasse, service et clientèle sympa, et surtout un bon petit brunch !

Ich habe das Kafi Dehai auch nur entdeckt, weil ich in der Nähe vom Idaplatz zu tun hatte. Es fühlt sich wirklich an, als würde man ein Wohnzimmer betreten. Alles ist mit viel Liebe eingerichtet.
Ich hatte eine Quiche mit Salat und einen Capuccino — alles sehr lecker. Ich vermisse solche Cafés wie dieses in Zürich. Wo man einfach mal reinsitzen und die Zeit vergessen kann. Ich war bis jetzt nur kurz nach dem Mittagsrush oder am Nachmittag hier. Da war’s angenehm leer und friedlich. Würde aber gerne mal den Sonntagsbrunch ausprobieren. Sicher auch sehr lecker…

Awesome Café that has a living room vibe to it, featuring really good coffee and tasty eats!

Was hatte ich schon viel über das Kafi Dihei gehört, so musste ich es natürlich dazumals auch austesten. Seither mag ich das wirklich sehr kleine aber niedliche Café sehr.
Man tritt ein und hat das Gefühl, bei jemanden in der Wohnung zu stehen. Wie Dany W schon sagte erinnert es an den Biedermeier. Nicht üblicherweise mein Stil, aber hier passt’s. Wenn’s Leute hat kann’s schon ganz schön eng werden, aber dafür ist es einfach supergemütlich dazusitzen und zu geniessen.
Die beiden jungen Damen welche das Kafi schmeissen sind sehr nett und zuvorkommend. Die Preise sind ebenfalls angemessen, respektive gleich hoch wie sonst in Zürich.
Bei einem Unilocal Event hatte ich für unser Grüppchen eine Apéroplatte bestellt. Käse, Salami, Aufschnitt, Oliven, Brot. Aber der Oberknüller: Das Zwiebelchutney. Das war soooooo wahnsinnig lecker, unglaublich.
Ich finde das Kafi Dihei ein toller Ort um sich ab und zu hinzusetzen und gedanklich in eine andere Zeit zu wandern. Da es für mich nicht grad ums Eck liegt ist das leider eher selten.
Das Frühstück hier soll übrigens ebenfalls gut sein. Muss ich mal austesten.

So, we finally found this café. Read about it from an e-​Newsletter that I subscribe to. It was Sunday, midday, so we thought it wouldn’t be too busy. It was still very busy, which is a good sign, right? After all, it is Sunday, and it is brunch o’clock! We end up sitting outside, which is fine, there were cute birds that kept flying in and out of the roofed area. We had a peak inside before sitting down, and it is CUTE! It does look like «dihei», like grandma’s living room. I loved the mix of furniture and the colours, the bits and bobs around. As we sat down outside, I wasn’t sure if there would be table service or not. I was preparing myself to look at the menu, and go in to order at the bar. Just as we were looking at the menu, the waitress came to bring the order from another table. I already saw from a distance, that her tray was over loaded with the coffee pots and glasses and bottles (why didn’t she just come a second time, with the rest of the order?), and the next thing you know, it was on the floor. This happens to any good waiter, but then again, any good waiter would not overload their tray (just saying).
I went for a cappuccino and the waffles, sweet. The price was pretty steep! CHF 19.50 for an order of waffles?! I mean I know Zurich is expensive, but I thought, we’ll see what these girls are doing differently with these waffles. We got our coffees and complimentary glasses of tap water pretty quickly. My cappuccino was a bit luke warm, it tasted like as if the milk wasn’t warmed up.
Half an hour passed and no signs of our waffles. I had forgotten about them as well, had I not seen another table get their food before ours, and realising that they came after us. So, when I got a chance, I asked the waitress about our waffles. She apologised and said she would ask in the kitchen. In about 3 minutes, our waffles came out, brought by another girl. (Clearly, they lost the ticket to the food and it was just lingering in the kitchen) I don’t want to sound like a total snob, but when I order waffles, I like them to be warm, because how long does it take to make waffles? It’s like with pancakes, they’re supposed to be warm. Ours were cold. Two waffles covered in icing sugar, a mini jar (egg cup size) of syrup, a bit of fruit mush (raspberries and rhubarb) and a dollop of cream. CHF 19.50. I thought it was a bit overpriced. I ate the whole thing, since I don’t waste food, drank my cappuccino and my water. I asked for a refill of the water, and they happily did so.
After the waitress cleared our table, she came back with a piece of chocolate cake, as an apology for the late food. I thought this was a nice touch! Not many places would do this, and I have to give them a double thumbs up for this. We asked for the bill, ready to leave after hours of chatting and waiting. My order of waffles and a cappuccino came to CHF 24.- I’ll leave it to you to decide… For me, I will be choosing somewhere else for my next brunch.

Di Hei is a cosy place where you can get a fix of Swiss food and English-​inspired meals and delicatessen. Liberty patterns, little birds singing in the bathroom as you push the door and very British chairs give this neighborhood café a nice Anglo-​Saxon touch. The prices are fair for the quality of the food, though a friend thought it was not that much when he received the brunch he had ordered. It’s definitely a place you want to swing by when touring Kreis3.

Klitzekleines schmuckes zuckersüsses Biedermeierstübchen …
Dieses liegt unscheinbar versteckt eingebettet inmitten dem Wohnquartier zwischen Albisriederplatz — Sihlfeld im ‘Chreis Drüü” … an der Ecke Zurlindenstrasse /​Martastrasse.
Man muss es kennen oder sich mit weit offenen Augen hier her verirren… und dann ist «Es kennen zu lernen» ein echter Segen für alle Sinne…
Glaubt mir eines… ihr Unilocaler da draussen…
Vergleichbares gibt es weit und breit nicht so schnell wieder.
Dieses Ambiente — verdient diesen Namen wie kein Lokal welches ich bisher kennenlernte.

Sensationell geschmackvoll eingerichtet — «alt» äusserst gepflegte Polster-​Couches, Stühle, Tische «Schaffreitli», StänderSchirmlampen… sooooo bieder (!) dass es sich anfühlt wie einst bei Oma Dihei — dass man es einfach lieben muss. Man hat das Gefühl Oma sitzt nebendran in Ihrem Ohrensessel und strickt Deine Socken für die RS fertig… Und die Stunde sagt Dir immer zuverlässig die echte «Neuenburger Pendule» auf dem Buffet an…
ein Bild das bleibt und hier weiterzuleben scheint…
Als unschlagbarer Kontrast dazu berieselt Dich Sound wie TNT von AC/​DC, After Dark von Tito & Tarantula oder Ballrooms of Mars von T. Rex… und 100te mehr…
Omas Kuchenbuffet (Brownies!!! llllllecker!), feinster Espresso uuuuuund das sensationelle Rekord von Turbinenbräu runden dieses Erlebnis ab…
Zum Essen werd ich bald herkommen und mir noch den Rest geben… und wohl unsterblich verliebt in dieses Beizli heimkehren.

Gleich zu Hause im Café Dihei
Sehr gemütliches Ambiente, hübsch dekoriert, mit lauschigen Sesseln, die zum Verweilen und Lesen einladen, während man den feinen Kaffee geniesst, den man hier noch mit einem ausgesprochen netten Lächeln serviert bekommt.
In dieses zweite Zuhause komme ich immer wieder gerne zurück!

Wunderbar gemütliches Kaffe mit sehr schönem Aussenplatz. Feines Essen, ein bischen britisch und Trinken in gemütlicher Atmosphäre mit freundlicher Bedienung. Wechselnde Menüs. Eine Perle!

Junge Muttis und softe Männer z. B junge Väter und abgeklärte Opa’s ich selbst bin so einer aus den angrenzenden Quartieren oder müde Stadtwanderer, das Dihei liegt unweit der Strassenbahnhaltestelle Linien 2+3 Zypressenstrasse, fühlen sich hier sofort Dihei oder wie die Anglosaxen sagen «At Home «. Die beiden Wirtinnen haben das Lokal mit dem Inventar aus den Dachböden ihrer Grossmütter oder zumindest aus verschiedenen Flohmärkten und Trödelhäusern äusserst liebevoll eingerichtet. Auch das Angebot erinnert an die gepflegte Kultur des «Afternoon Teas «, gibt es doch hier fast authentische Scores und andere selbst gemachte Kuchen und gepflegte Tees zu kaufen. Uebrigens auch die kalten und warmen Sandwiches sind durchaus phänomenal. Die Damen Wirtinnen verströmen Freude über die Gäste in ihrer Wohnstube und servieren durchaus flink, auch im grosszügigen Garten for dem Dihei, einem Refugium für unverbesserliche Raucher war ich bis vor 3 Jahren selbst noch und abgestellte Kindertransportgefährte, gerade diese sind der Grund für meinen Abzug von einem Stern behindern diese doch, wenn im Inneren des Kafi Dihei abgestellt die älteren etwas weniger behenden Gäste doch sehr. The Kafi Dihei is located close to tramstop lines 2+3 Zypresse. The friendly owner ladies have been in their grannies attics and or at many garagesales to furnish this place where young mothers, soft spoken men as young fathers and getting philosophical grandfathers such as myself and occasional friends of «English Afternoon Cream Teas «gather for scones and fine home baked cakes in an atmosphere which has to be experienced rather than described. By the way their hot and cold sandwiches are quite phenomenal. The big terrace in front invites avid and getting rarer smokers I’ve kicked the habit 3 years ago going from 60 fags to Zero in one day, thanks God without any need for health and serve also as a parking lot for prams and other small children’s transport vehicles. Unfortunately these contraptions are the reason for the deduction of 1 star as, when parked on the inside they are very obstructive for elderly guests like myself.

An der vielleicht schönsten Strasse Zürichs, hat just ein neues Café eröffnet.
Man stelle sich dieses möglichst idyllisch vor: Fassaden eines nostalgischen Altbauhauses, welche von Kletterpflanzen umgarnt sind, ein Gartenplatz, der vielleicht von 10 ebenso altmodische Boudoirtischlein geziert und von demselben Grün, welches das Haus einkleidet, semi-​bedeckt zum Frühstück oder Café lockt.
Betritt man erst das Innere des Cafés, wähnt man sich wahrhaftig in einer Stube. Nicht erstaunlich, rührt der Name von der Stimmung, die dem Lokal mit akribischer Bewusstheit verliehen werden soll: Dihei. Etwas plakativ wirkt das bunt zusammengewürfelte Mobiliar, das in einer breiten Anwendung aller Spektralfarben und dies in willkürlicher Mischung, ein klares Statement abgeben will. Transportiert wird tatsächlich ein Hauch von leben und leben lassen, während ich hinten links eine emsige junge Dame, vertieft in ihr Tastenklimpern des Macs beobachte wo zugleich die etwas unbeholfene, dafür äusserst liebenswürdige Servierdame dem Tisch zu meiner Rechten ein Fingerhütchen gefüllt mit Konfitüre bringt, das vermutlich zum Haus-​Kater-​Frühstück gehört. Auf der Toilette wards mir dann etwas bang, denn hier schienen die Farben geradezu eine Kaskade zu erleben,. Die Rosentapeten überhalb und Brokatrahmen geradeaus vor mir, nicht zu vergessen das miese Rihanna Lied, das über die Boxen am Abort-​Örtchen von allen Seiten daher pfiff, gaben mir Anreiz zu bedauern, dass Konzept des Alles-​ist-​Erlaubt-​Stils hier leider etwas over the top lief.
Das Café ist unterm Strich am richtigen Ort zu Hause, denn die Gegend rund um den Idaplatz scheint zwar augenscheinlich übersättigt, doch kanns im Grunde genommen nie genug gemütliche Sonntag-​Cafés in einer brüderlich und schwesterlichen Wohngegend wie dieser geben. Keine Zweifel, dass dieses Dihei nicht gut ziehen wird, denn die Bemühungen darum, beliebt zu werden, sind dank der beiden Besitzerinnen deutlich spürbar.

Toll. Man fühlt sich eben dihei. Ganz nette Bedienung, es gibt einige kleine Gerichte, Sandwiches, Kuchen, Tee und Kaffeee.
