Swissotel Le Plaza Basel

Ich hatte einen sehr angenehmen Aufenthalt im Swissotel und kann es guten Gewissens weiter empfehlen. Das Zimmer war groß und mit allem, was man braucht, ausgestattet. Das Frühstücksbüffet war sehr reichhaltig und reichte von herzhaft und deftig bis leicht und gesund. Der große Tagungssaal bot ideale Verhältnisse für eine Tagung mit knapp 100 Personen. Das Personal war extrem freundlich und sehr kompetent.

Location is convenient for business people who might have to attend something at the Exhibition Square, but it requires a tram ride to get to the main part of the city and to walk along the Rhine River. However, a transportation pass is provided by the hotel and the tram stop is either on the corner (#14) or across the street (#6). Both get you to the town center. There is no evening turn down service so we had to request extra towels and a roll of toilet paper.
Staff is very friendly and the breakfast that was included was okay. Unfortunately, dining al fresco is a problem everywhere because smoking is just soooooooooooooooooo chic in Europe.
They must have some special deal with Tauck because the ending cruise people were there at the same time that the beginning cruise people were there.

Great place! Excellent food, lovely employees & big modern clean rooms! Highly recommendable for everyone :)

At CHF200+, this is the worst 5-​star hotel ever! The room is so noisy that I am writing this at 6am while still staying at the hotel, but what else is there to do when you’ve been woken up for an hour by the sound of the trams which is so loud that you might as well be laying directly on the tracks. This doesn’t help when there were people talking in front until wee hours of the night. Given window has zero sound proofing, obviously it sounded like drunk people having a shouting match. To add salt to the wounds, the room stinks like cigarette smell covered by some scent-​absolving chemical. I think this hotel has been spoiled by its business account with Roche. Time to shake things up and start telling everyone at work to take the business elsewhere!

I agree with the previous review. The Swissotel is a pretty nice stay. I’ve always found the concierge and front desk personnel very friendly and very helpful. They do not hesitate to assist with my flight check-​in, provide directions to nearby destinations, recommend good restaurants, etc. While a little pricey, the breakfast buffet is top notch and offers nice selection of hot and cold foods. The steak house at the hotel is also pretty good, and a good default restaurant if you cant decide where to eat. I have always found the rooms to be clean and beds to be comfortable. And the location cant be beat as its right across from the convention center and walking distance from Roche and Novartis (if traveling for business) and the downtown area for shopping and good eats/​drinks/​museums. For work or for pleasure, I’d definitely stay here again.

This review is for the hotel itself. I’ve spent several weeks staying here and have found the service to be impeccable — they are always friendly, accommodating, and helpful when you need something extra. The rooms are very clean (although the size can vary quite a bit and some do need updating) and the beds are comfortable. The downstairs restaurant (see review) is fantastic for both breakfast and dinner, and room service is higher in quality than it really needs to be. Overall, a nice place to stay when you’re in Basel.

Das swissotel in Basel ist ein schönes 5* Hotel, aber in der Liga finde ich es nicht exceptionell. Solider Service, solides Niveau, schöné Zimmer mit guter Ausstattung (incl. Kaffeemaschine). Frühstück großartig aber auch echt teuer — das lohnt sich also nur wenn man gern und viel frühstückt.

Das Swissotel Le Plaza in Basel, welches direkt am Basler Messegelände liegt, ist ein 5-​Sterne-​Luxushotel. Je nachdem, in welchen Messehallen eine Messe stattfindet, kann man teilweise durch Durchgangstüren direkt aus dem Hotel — ohne über die Strasse gehen zu müssen — in das Messegelände wechseln. Das Hotel verfügt über eine funktionsfähige, ausreichend besetzte freundliche Rezeption, eine stilvolle Bar in einer Ecke der Lobby und im Keller über eine hoteleigene Diskothek. Eintritt für Hotelgäste frei, externe Gäste zahlen mind. am Wochenende Eintritt.
Zimmer sind gehoben ausgestattet, incl. Bademantel, Pantoffel etc.
In der Lobby spielt manchmal noch ein Pianospieler abends.
Das Preisniveau sowohl des Hotels als auch der gastronomischen Betriebe ist eher am oberen Ende zu suchen, zu Messezeiten kosten Zimmer i.d.R. über 200 Euro/​Nacht. Bei Cocktails sollte man 10 Euro einkalkulieren… Im Hotel gibt es im EG noch ein kleines Restaurant, welches durchaus genießbare Speisen serviert, teilweise zu Messezeiten etwas überlaufen, — aber wer will das übelnehmen.
Insgesamt für den Gast, der nicht auf den Pfennig gucken muß, eine Empfehlung. Eine hoteleigene Tiefgarage gibt es nicht. Der Hotelboy fährt Ihren Wagen aber gerne in ein Parkhaus in unmittelbarer Nähe und holt es auch wieder.
