The room was perfect, clean and spacious. I loved the common area near the reception where it was possible to have coffee, tea and cookies. The hotel is perfectly located, in the city center and 2 minutes away from the central station. Plus, the breakfast was amazing and the staff extremely nice and helpful. Recommend!

We started our trip in Denmark where we stayed in 2 star and 3 star hotels, and we were really looking forward to stay in this 4 star hotel in Malmö. However, with a combination of badlucks, questionable policies and poor accommodations, our stay here ended up being a not so positive experience. First, I must admit we booked a room at the Mayfair hotel through an online 3rd party service. On this website, we requested a room with 2 twin beds. The first thing we noticed was that we had one regular bed. I called the front desk, and the lady said she was very sorry but a request on a 3rd party website guarantees nothing, and all rooms with twin beds were booked. Now maybe that was our mistake, to have used a 3rd party website, however it would have been nice to send us a notice that our request couldn’t be fulfilled when going ahead with the reservation. It might not be anyone’s fault but the system’s, but the end result is the same, our experience was lessened. Then, the fire alarm went off twice… False alarms. Once around noon, which isn’t a big deal, but at 4 in the morning it was really infuriating. The building is very old and it’s really something. However, if you choose to sleep with windows open, know that they might hit the frame all night long if there’s wind, and the flaps might do the same. Both have a restraining/lock system that is old and not very effective. Very annoying. So like I said, bad experience because of the circumstances. And to that, I must add the wifi could barely reach our room I felt like it was 2010(I know, first world problem…) The staff however is really nice and helping, the inside of the building is really something to see, and the breakfast is just perfect. Too bad they don’t care about your online requests and 2 random fire alarms went off for nothing.

Great hotel that offers something out of the ordinary. Some of the rooms have a history that you can read about in framed articles and there is a(knight in) shining armor in the lobby. It’s cosy, snug and comfortable, both geographically and concerning the bed, pillow and linen standard. I have stayed in various rooms, from smaller rooms to a suit among the rooftops with jacuzzi and a roof window that enable you to take a bath while stargazing. Lovely! There is free wifi provided and a selection of teas and ecological coffee in the lobby. Now to the best part: the breakfast buffet. It is located in the basement vault and contains an assortment of bread, jams, cheeses, hams, vegetables and cereals. There is scrambled and boiled eggs(that is traditionally served together with kaviar in Sweden), sausages, meatballs, pancakes, muffins and really tasty croissants. The lack of a gym/spa is the only thing that is missing in my opinion. Stay here if you fancy an affordable hotel that is centrally located, have a personal and historic wibe and if you value a great breakfast.

One of the nicest hotels I have ever stayed at. I was in Malmo for the Eurovision Song Contest and stayed at the Mayfair for a week. This place was perfect. It may be the only old hotel I think is perfect(I usually stay in very new hotels). The room was spacious, the view of the inner courtyard was nice, and the beds were incredibly comfortable. The location was perfect, about 3 blocks from the central train station, and 1 block from one end of a major plaza and the start of the main shopping street. Everything interesting at ESC was a 5 minute walk away. And the staff was great. Very helpful anytime I needed something.

this was by far one of the best hotel experiences i have ever had. we decided to take an overnight trip to malmo from copenhagen. after checking out a few hotels online the tunneln seemed like the most unique/authentic ‘old’ sweden experience in close proximity to the train station/city center. the hotel was a block walk from the train station and had a really beautiful façade. we checked in and immediately were upgraded to a deluxe room. after taking the gorgeous old elevator(the kind you have to manually close the door behind you on) we wandered up the corridors to our room. along the walk the walls were covered in paintings and articles showing the history of the building. once at the room we opened the doors and were happy to see a super clean, bright and airy large room with a perfect view of the old city’s skyline. this hotel, that once housed swedish royalty, actually provided FREE wifi in every room and the hotel staff were extremely helpful in giving us advice on the city. i must say hands down the best part of the whole experience was the amazing complimentary breakfast served in the ancient cellar(dating back to 1300’s). you walk down the spiraling staircases and come upon a beautiful arched ceiling cellar with little nooks and crannies all over. the food was served in the«beatles lounge»(the band stayed in the hotel on a visit to malmo and supposedly tipped back a few when the cellar was used as a bar tavern in the 60s). the food was magnificent. the perfect swedish breakfast… swedish pancakes with a plethora of jams and spreads, fine cheeses and deli meats, perfectly cooked eggs, fresh baked bread, all kinds of swedish fish salads, breakfast meats, a lovely cereal and granola/yogurt bar, fruit bar and amazing juices as well as a really cool espresso machine that made café au lait’s in seconds with the press of a button. i highly recommend staying in this hotel. it’s super affordable and makes you feel like you’re a royal in sweden a few centuries ago…
