I came to Xi’an Kötet per accident. I was going to another place that was full. I asked for the duck with mushrooms… Some minutes later, I am presented with a HUGE plate, full of flavoured food! Really delicious!

tl;dr — okay atmosphere, good service, skip the Mapo Tofu, get the fried buns. Very reasonably priced. Would definitely come back again to try the the noodle and dumpling dishes. Full review: My girlfriend and I are recent transplants from New York to Stockholm, and we went out looking for a good Chinese restaurant. We came to Xi’an Köket with moderate expectations for dinner. I called ahead for a reservation two hours ahead of time and got a table for two without any problems. After arriving at the restaurant, we were seated immediately. The interior was made up to look like a Chinese garden and looked nice. The lighting was dark but at a nice level since it was the evening. The service was prompt and cordial. I was intrigued by the Mapo Tofu on the menu, as I am a big fan of the dish, and my girlfriend ordered the Fried Buns. Our food arrived quickly. The Mapo Tofu was definitely not traditional Mapo Tofu. The sauce was ok but not greasy enough compared to authentic Mapo Tofu, and there were way too many veggies. The meat was thinly sliced and not minced. Would give this dish a pass the next time. My girlfriend’s fried buns were definitely better. The meat filling was juicy and the dough fried at just the right crispiness, and the spicy dipping sauce was just the right level of oily and spicy. I suspect the proprietors are actually northern Chinese, based on the accent of their Mandarin, so it would be no surprise if they’re pretty good in making dumplings and noodle dishes since that’s more of a northern specialty. Overall the prices were very reasonable for Stockholm, about SEK450 for the two dishes plus a large beer. Anyway, I would definitely come back here soon to try the noodles and dumplings!
