Mmm! The flatbread(wrap) with herring is hella good! Their coffee is good too! The food stall is right outside the Slussen station. The Stockholms Standmuseum is to the left of the stand. I came here at 5pm and there was no line so my order came out fast and hot! If Swedish grandmas come for the food, then you know it is pretty good.

Based on the many good reviews & thru Google we had to try.1st if you use iPhone app gps directions right now are off due to slussen construction, just aim for Stockholm city museum . Food wise, just ok lah, we tried a couple of herring related items & whilst nothing wrong, nothing wow either, maybe we just don’t care for this type of food

Maybe it is a stretch to rate this place because we were in line but didn’t get to eat here. The aromas… ahhh. But for those of you with MasterCard, while the sign says they take it, the owner said only Visa works. I felt so bad for the owner who prepared our food which we couldn’t pay for because we assumed his accepted credit card signage was correct. It was a takeout order so it isn’t like we ate it and then didn’t pay. But he probably was not able to resell it either so both of us lost. My mouth was watering. This looked like a winner. All I can comment on is the aroma which was to die for. Lesson for us is to be sure these little places take the credit card you have before ordering. It might be because our Master Card has an American chip but the same card has worked in every other place we have been to. It just did not work here.

The food truck is extremely easy to find, right across from Slussen station, Södermalm exit as soon as you come out. For a meal ranges between 30−75SEK, the food tastes incredibly delicious! The service is quite fast despite there are a group of us waiting and there is only one worker. I get the basic Swedish plate with fried herring, mashed potatoes, lingonberry sauce, lettuce, and pickle cucumber for 75SEK. However, since this place does not have covered seating, it may be difficult during rainy and/or windy weather or you can just do take-outs. Definitely will come back whenever I get the chance!

Mmm! Stumbled upon this herring stand on my first day in Stockholm, and am still dreaming about the dish. Got the standard plate with fried herring, onions, mashed potatoes, slaw, etc. It totally hit the spot and was a great mix of flavours. Price point was right, and food was very good. I usually don’t like to eat at the same place more than once when I’m traveling… but this place I totally would.

Affordable Swedish street food! If you’re on a budget, this is a great place to get some good food without costing you an arm and a leg. I personally thought Stockholm was expensive everywhere, so this is a great option. Everything tasted fresh and the guy at the counter was super friendly! I love the open face sandiwch with the mustard and herring. Mmm…

Overall Score: 3 Service/Ambiance Rating: 3 Food Rating: 3 Disclaimer: It is possible that I may just not enjoy Scandinavian cuisine. Like another Unilocaler, I found the food to be a bit too greasy. The flavored and textures seemed to be a bit bland and nothing was really memorable. The price point of the establishment is what mainly what would drive me to explore other items. I’m interested in seeing if another dish would change my prospective.

We were staying in the area and wanted to try authentic Scandinavian food without shelling out a fortune since the food here is so overpriced. Found this place on Unilocal and it looked pretty good in which it did turn out to be quite tasty street fare. It’s a food cart located near the water with tables situated right in front of the stand. They serve fried herring in either a plate form which comes with mashed potatoes, coleslaw & pickled cucumbers or on rye bread with honey mustard. They offer a few other options as well but what we tried we were very satisfied with. They accept credit cards which makes it super convenient.

So good! Inexpensive, friendly, clean, fast, delicious and in a great location. This is a food truck without covered seating — tricky on a windy/sometimes drizzling/cold day in April! — but I think the value is very worth the challenge. I got the«2⁄3 portion» of fried herring with mashed potatoes, coleslaw, pickles and lingonberries for 60SKR. Hands down my favorite lunch in Sweden. Thanks, Unilocal, for helping me track this place down!

A place for grabbing some fried herring, a typical local street food. Taste-wise, not bad, and very affordable, especially given the high living expenses in Stockholm.

The food isn’t to die for and a little to greasy. However, in a town full of overpriced food, this place is worth a meal. The guy who runs it is really cool too, pull up your smart phone and show him some of the great Unilocal reviews he has gotten. Better yet, take a pic of him and upload it on Unilocal. He’ll love it. :)

Oh my god. Still dreaming about the potatoes. This is essentially a food truck that sells fried herring with your choice of a few sides. The herring filets are lightly breaded before being fried on a flat-top. Not completely deboned but chewed through the tiny bones and didn’t get them stuck in my throat because I’m not five years old. The mashed potatoes were made by a true master — I’d gladly give up all other vegetables for the rest of my life if I could have these potatoes every day. Had the herring with potatoes, carrots, and pickled cucumber. The thin-cut pickles cut through the richness and fat very subtly — it’s not like an over-seasoned dill pickle. Sat on the bench next to some Malay tourists who were enthusiastically taking photos of their food and some teenage skaters. Nice to see that the locals eat here too.

Simply put this van sells very good fried herring. I had a herring burger with the trimmings of pickles etc and sat next to the van watching the works go by in foot and by boat too. Fish was cooked to perfection. Hopefully there will still be a place for this truck in the newly formed Slussen, it would be s crying shame to lose it.

Right by the water and the Slussen metro station, this food station is really convenient to get to. They specialize in pan-fried herring in combination with different condiments, and I got three pieces with lingonberry, onions, and pickled cucumber. It also came with potatoes and a slice of bread(or the cracker-like bread that seems to come with Swedish dishes instead of actual bread). The lingonberry sauce was really sweet, unlike lingonberry. It was basically jam. The onions were raw and thin, which complimented the fish well. The pickled cucumber also nicely balanced the taste. Definitely worth trying!

Ok, let me explain, if you’re looking for a 5 star restaurant — this is not the place. It’s just a simple wagon that serves fish. Really good fucking fish. There’s a couple outdoor tables and the drinks are just water and some sodas. 50SEK gets you something that you’ll remember though. Rye bread, onions, mustard and Strömming. What are your options? About 5 of them. Do you need more? Why are you in Sweden? Go to some other fish utopia where they serve a giant array different fish concoctions and leave us the hell alone. We’ll be happy at this little fish cart.

Good and cheap street food. I got the 75SEK deal, fried herring with pickled cucumbers, salad and lingonberry sauce. Delicious. Just the service was a bit so so. It felt like he had a very long day already. Not an hello first, but ‘next’!!

SODELICIOUSANDAFFORDABLEITSCRAZY! Came here on a rainy day so there was no line and the owner personally walked us through the menu, gave us samples, and told us the success of his stand. Ended up ordering the herring with mashed potatoes and a side of carrots, lingonberry, and beets and it was delicious and filling. The herring was so delicately and perfectly fried while the inside was soft and lean. The skin was slightly crispy with flavor and seasoning and this fish is actually perfect with the dill mayo, picked cucumbers, and lingonberry. For 75 kr, you get to pick three sides with your fried herring. SOOO good. Can’t wait to go back for more! Plus it’s located right outside the slussen station!

For 75NOK; you get a big scoop of mash potatoes, 2 fried fillet of herring and 3 sides(they call it «accessory»)…what a great deal in Stockholm and everything was good! For this value, I would have given this place 5 stars if the guy had been just«a little» nicer.

A perfect snack for a rainy afternoon. Found this place while making our way over to Sodermalm and saw the great reviews on Unilocal! The service was quick and the food came out hot. We shared the fried herring with mashed potatoes and red onions. I definitely felt like I was having a real Swedish meal! Seems like they have a lot of other choices on the menu and I wish we had more time to come back and try some of the other items. If you’re in the area and want an affordable, but tasty meal, this is the place to go!

Thank you Unilocalers for the recommendation! We went to here TWICE during our time in Stockholm and both times we got the skaning for 40 kronor. As other reviewers said, it’s fried herring, red onion, delicious mustard and fresh dill(literally, the guy just picked some from a living plant of dill in a pot) on rye bread. The first time we went, it was during the day and the other time on rainy Saturday night, around 6:30pm, and they closed almost immediately after.

Unreal how good this is. Easily and without a doubt the best meal I ate in Stockholm. Brought some tall cans of Guld and ate an open faced sandwich of herring, red onion, cucumber and sweet mustard with dill sprigs on fried rye bread for 40. Probably the cheapest, most delicious meal you can find in a notoriously expensive city. See you again soon for your fishburger, you beautiful bastard…

I was curious about this place for a few years before I tried it, which I have done several times now, including this afternoon. It’s a California beach style food stand(the structure) at Slussen. I love the big yellow fish logo. Order at the right window, pick up at the left. If it’s crowded, which it wasn’t, it may take a little while, since sandwiches are cooked to order. The sandwiches are pretty simple and totally fresh. Lightly dredged herring fillets fried quickly and put on(or in) a few different types of bread with thin red onions, thin marinated cucumber slices, parsley, or other things, depending on which sandwich you order. I remember them using coriander on a strömming«burger» a few years ago, but not since. It was good. Maybe I should ask about it. There are so many awful, pretentious eateries of every description in Stockholm where owners are interested only in getting your money with no consideration about what they serve or whether their customers enjoy their experiences. To them, I say GET A CLUE! Nystekt Strömming allows you to enjoy, without much ado, a fresh, simple, tasty sandwich at a price that won’t upset your digestion, and food that won’t make you gag.

My friend heard told me about this place and we went really late at night. Good thing they’re open till 4am! It’s a tiny stand right off one of the train stops and it was delicious. I got one of their herring plates and it consisted of 2 large pieces of fried herring, mashed potatoes, pickles, onions, and knäckebröd. The potatoes were super creamy and the fish was fresh, seasoned to perfection and crisp. I was so happy to try some local cuisine! It was about $ 10USD but that’s dirt cheap in Sweden! If you’re visiting, you must try this stand! The man working there was super friendly and the food came out fast. If I ever go back to Stockholm, I’m stopping by!

I think the literal translation of this spot(which is a kiosk /food stand right by the water) is «fresh fried herring». The night before we did a marathon-length wander through Stockholm, my friend had identified this as a possible spot to visit, a Time Magazine Top 10, in fact. When crossing over from Sodermalm we spotted the little yellow stand surrounded by Swedes(tip-off: the white-blonde hair) of all ages taking shelter from the midday downpour. We joined the crew. And launched into an order. Two open-faced sandwiches with fried herring, dill and a sweet-sour mustard sauce. One sandwich stuffed with fried herring, cabbage salad, and onion on a warm bready roll. We enacted the visual description of «scarfing». I didn’t even know I liked herring. Now I do. Warm, crispy, multi-textured from the«food accessories»(others include options like a creamy sauce and pickled cucumbers and lingonberry sauce) and… perfect. Unilocal note: not just a cheap eats option, but also a listed place«where chefs eat» if that gets your culinary juices a-flowing.

Was gibt es hier?

Slussen is t in erster Linie Verkehrsknotenpunkt. Fastfood at its finest.
