Imagine: week-end, Paris, late spring, smell of freshly baked croissants. Do you have that image in your head? Bad news: you are still in Stockholm. Good news: this is exactly how it feels like when you enter Sophies Canelé. My friend and I came here for brunch on a Saturday, which they unfortunately don’t serve anymore(no hurt feelings). Instead, we chose to combine French and Swedish breakfast options for an ultimate breakfast experience. Happy and satisfied, we ordered some pastries and, of course, canelés. Il était délicieux & J’aime Sophies Canelé aka I’m already planning my next visit there, to my Paris in Stockholm.

Lovely café in a lovely spot of Vasastan. It’s always difficult to find a small gift to bring to friends place. Mini Canele is a good small bite to add on the side of coffee while enjoying Fika and so easy to take away! The café also packs the Canele in a cute little box.

Sophie has been catering Stockholm with her delicious Canelés for several years so I paid a visit to her newly opened place. I ate the daily meal which was a home made«quiche lorraine» pie(you could tell it from the dough) served with a fresh salad. I topped it with a canelé and a chouquette which I then bought for the family, my son loves them. I bought also a poppyseed baguette and a wonderfull bread that was still good two days later, so much better than all the sourdough-ish bread one can buy in Stockholm. Since the place just opened, it is only a matter of time for her owner to set up wifi that will definitively make it a waterhole for the neighbourhood.

The Francophile within me is delighted that it recently opened up a new French boulangerie just a stone’s throw away from home. Sophies Canelé is a good supplement to those who are fatigued of all the sourdough-baking places that instead wants buttery French croissants or other lovely pastries. The interior is very minimalist and stylish, and the atmosphere is refreshing. Since the place is newly opened, it still have some minor things to be fixed — such as Wi-Fi for instance, which will likely lead to this place becoming a watering hole for freelancers who need a nice place to work at that serves good coffee. I went here to try their breakfast, which turned out to be a good move. Sophies Canelé serves four breakfast packages; — Express: coffee+pastry(55SEK) — Small: coffee+sandwhich+juice(95SEK) — Medium: coffee+pastry+sandwhich+juice(115SEK) — Large: coffee+pastry+sandwhich+yogurt/muesli+juice+canele(175SEK). Besides, you have the opportunity to choose which type of coffee, sandwich and pastry you prefer. I was stuffed after the medium package, so I wonder how hungry you have to be in order to complete the large one! This place has also become quite famous for their homemade authentic«caneles» from the Bordeaux region in France — something I have to test soon. UPDATE. I’ve now revisited Sophies Canelé and tried thier speciality. They offer two different flavours; vanilla/rum and lemon/limoncello. For me they tasted good, but I’ve at the same time nothing to compare them with. Therefore I probably need to try other canelés before I can leave an justified review.

Fantastic spot with authentic French pastries. The croissants looked divine, but the cannelés and chouquettes are a real treat. I wish this place were in my neighborhood, but I don’t think I could handle having it in such proximity. Yum!
