It is hard to not give this venerable institution founded 1773 a top mark; it’s the stage where La Nilsson, Jussi Björling, Nina Stemme, Nicolai Gedda, Jenny Lind, Christina Nilsson, Elisabeth Söderström, Anne Sofie von Otter, Sixten Ehrling, and Anneli Alhanko have performed. The Royal Opera is the Swedish National Stage for opera and ballet. I have now been here a number of times, and it is a building that is the ultimate turn of the century building that fills you with awe with an interior to match it; marble stair cases, red velvet and gold(the gilded hall is just made for drinking champagne), busts of King Gustavus III(the founder) and the singer Jenny Lind. The productions have lately started to break free of the conservative, and I am excited to see more challenging and moderna ballet productions, and a La Bohème transferred to Stockholm’s Old Town. And I look forward to many new productions — just to mention one: the Ring cycle in 2017! So, why not a five-star review? To me it boils down to the service and welcoming by the people working there. Far too often the people working there come through as too snotty and a tad to self-grandizing in relation to us the visitors. Just by working at a venerable institution doesn’t make you shimmer with gold, only your helpfulness and service can. Far too many visitors find the opera intimidating and that they may not be «worthy» visitors — don’t add to that feeling!

Absolutely love every performance I have seen here! I am new in town and I have gone every month to each of the shows! Beautiful building! The performers are very passionate and talented! If you are in Stockholm, check it out! Great prices for those under 25 years old!
