Joe & the Juice

Joe & the Juice has a unique approach to the health food market. They serve smoothies, shakes, hard-​bread sandwiches, concentrated juice shots and coffee in a hipster «club» like atmosphere with cute pink branding to top it all off. The whole atmosphere is very «chic Scandinavian» and very enjoyable! This is a chain that comes from Denmark. There are several locations in Stockholm. I just saw that they are also opening one up now in my hood, NYC! The look of the place doesn’t exactly show the fresh and healthy aspects of the business up front, but when you look over the menu you will get an idea of how healthy and fresh everything really is. I usually go with the simple and elegant «Pick Me Up» that consists of raspberries, bananas and apple. It’s delicious! One of my favorite smoothies in the city. It’s pretty healthy, but it doesn’t taste too healthy, ya know?! ;) I also love their «Avocado Pesto Mozzarella and Tomato» sandwich. I’m usually not much for hard-​bread, but this sandwich is just soft enough and the flavor is awesome! Unlike a lot of places you can get a juice or smoothie in Stockholm, this place makes all it’s juice and food fresh to order. Which, is truly great! If you know anything about fresh smoothie making or juicing, you know that you should consume it right after making it to receive all the health benefits. Picking it up a couple hours later out of a refrigerated case is just asinine. I also love that here my sandwich hasn’t been sitting around getting soggy either. Big plus! They had a few comfy tables, an outlet for my laptop and it wasn’t pact full of people – unlike at the espresso house around the corner. I think people forget that this place has coffee too! I haven’t ordered one here yet, so I can’t comment on the coffee flavor, but I have seen that it comes in a pink cup! I’m definitely trying one next time. Sometimes all it takes is a pink cup to sway me! LOL! =) The only thing that I think this place could do a bit better would be to give you a little pink plate or tray for your sandwich. I didn’t like that they always hand it to me with some napkins underneath. Otherwise, great place to grab a healthy, perfectly sized juice and sandwich for lunch!

I was really happy to find a juice place. We went two days in a row and had a variety of juices. My favorite was Hangover Heaven with mint, apple, and «flader» (I forget the tranalation.) My next favorite was Young Blood, with celery, lemon, and apple. I also added spinach. Then the Energizer with red grapefruit, ginger, and apple. I was not very happy with the Veggie Focus, but I ordered that one accidentally, as I am not a fan of drinks with carrot (also has celery and apple). I had meant to reorder Young Blood which had many similar ingrediants (also celery and apple).
The staff are friendly, and there is an English menu if you want one. I had fun learning some new Swedish words like Jordgrubbar (strawberry). Now that I think about it jordgrubbar would have been excellent with Hangover Heaven… next time.

The juice was fine, but not really memorable for me. What’s up with the strange sexual innuendos? No real reason to go again.
