If you love rock and roll bars you will adore Anchor Pub! Posing as a restaurant/bar during the day it transforms into a majestic rock and roll/metal extravaganza around 9.00pm. The music playing is heavy and ranges from recent hits all the way back to the 70’s. The best part is the live bands that come in to play for free! Pretty reasonably priced drinks and guaranteed a good night out.

This place is a rock bar. It is authentic, loud and dark. Don’t be surprised if someone at the table next to you starts singing along to the chorus of the obscure-seventh-track-on-a-limited-edition-black-metal-cover blasting out of the wall of speakers. If you are into the scene of hard rock music, this is a great place. You can pick up some new music tips or just enjoy the subculture. Very often there are bands performing here. Food is meat centric of not too shabby standards, but do not expect to be amazed by the taste. Burgers, kebobs and pasta. Do not come here for the food only. It is a sustenance for enjoying music. Drinks are mainly beer and simple long drinks. Price is reasonable.

This is a pub by day and early evening — but a HEAVYMETALROCKCLUB by late evening! We ducked in for dinner and found their staff to be amazingly pleasant! The menus are on a old LP records and the tables have bottles with candles on top. The dinner fare was surprisingly good and reasonably priced! I had a reindeer burger with predictably was a bit«gamey» and rich with oils/grease. My wife got some kind of seafood/fish dish which she liked. Daughter went in for a kids’ menu item — pasta which was plentiful. Our friend got a steak which looked pretty good. All told I wish I had wandered back in that evening to check out the rock band but I fell asleep before midnight. The staff were extraordinarily nice — 2 thumbs up!

So, my hard rocking friends. Swedes are into metal. Period. There are many places in Stockholm to go to soothe those metal craving ears, and Pub Anchor is one of them. It is a pub. They have a stage. The stage gets use. I have been here many times, and I have always enjoyed myself. This last time was no different, even if it was a Tuesday. Tuesdays are karaōke nights, but also with some band playing. Karaōke was more fun than the band. Metal karaōke is really entertaining. And the clientele is not disappointing one bit. Easy going metal-heads that goes trolling for girls, and girls are a minority like in any hard rocking pub. The crew are not the nicest bunch in the world, but nor should they be. The semi-gothic waitress that takes no shit(like Grynet) is perfect for the setting. She walks confidently like she is hiding a linoleum knife somewhere in her outfit. Go to Anchor. If a Tuesday can deliver, any day can deliver. Drink expensive beer and rock out in one of the best metal countries in the world.

So this isn’t a bad place. But it is just a place. Looks like any fake Irish pub you’d find just about anywhere. Just saying… you could do better if you try just a little bit harder.

Yes my friends, Anchor Pub is THE premier bar for metalheads and bikers in Stockholm. Oddly enough it’s located in the rather posh neighborhood of Vasastan. And on a Tuesday evening, this place was packed and charging a cover which is amazing, especially for Stockholm. It’s a dive, with a great atmosphere, lots of long hair, tattoos, and angst. And it’s totally a place I can see myself going regularly even though I possess none of these physical or mental traits. A great selection of beers on tap, they serve Hoegaarden out of a massive glass. They have decent pub food, but you really just go here to drink and watch heavy metal documentaries with a fun crowd.
