We dropped into Gamla Enskede Bageri one Sunday afternoon after playing in Triangle Park with our children. This is a great fika location nestled in the neighborhood of Gamla Enskede. This is definitely a local hang out and I remember having many fikas with friends while on maternity leave. The location is easy to get to by foot and the parking isn’t too terrible. We dropped in for Fika and ordered 3 hot chocolates, 2 café lattes, cinnamon bun, vanilla buns and chocolate balls. The bakery treats were fresh and tasty and appeared to be newly baked. The coffee was nothing special and a tad bit on the lukewarm side, but that didn’t ruin the experience for us. The hot chocolates were also on the cooler side of things which worked well for our kids. I will say that on the weekends this place gets CROWDED. It’s definitely workable, but you have to be quick to get a spot if you want to sit inside. The staff was friendly enough, but they did seem a bit rushed due to the number of customers they were serving. All in all, this is a really cute place to fika on a Sunday afternoon with family or friends.

Aiming for old-sweden authenticity and upper tier quality Gamla Enskede Bageri offers a polished version of the famed Swedish ‘fika’. Both the selection and the location mirrors these values and caters to both the hipster crowd of Södermalm and to the bourgeois neighborhood of Gamla Enskede. The coffee is good but not excellent, traditional swedish drip coffee in a limited variety of roasts but the pastries, my god — the pastries! With an on-site bakery and patisserie GEB offers great bread and stunning sweets with a no-nonsense touch. Don’t expect crossover creations and avant garde taste combinations, just sit back and enjoy black coffee and a cinnamon bun at the streetside tables, preferably after a hard cycling session.
