This is only my second time visiting Singapore and my last experience was less than desirable with my hotel. I was nervous when arriving and not knowing what to expect. I had visited Chinatown last time and felt safe at night and enjoyed the liveliness and culture of the area. When my cab driver dropped me off at 2 am at the Dorsett I was in awe. I had hardly gotten out of the cab and the bellman had already brought my suitcase in to the desk. Maybe he could tell I was lethargic ;-) The front desk was so friendly and helpful. I thought it was comedic when I got in the elevator and pushed«3» and didn’t move. Standing there after traveling for 20 hours and crossing the IDL, it took me a second to realize that I had to scan my room key in the elevator to move. Everything was easy to figure out when I got to my room. I’m not a seasoned international traveler so the American me(like all of me) was feeling ultra stupid when I couldn’t find the outlet converter… INTHEWALL. The same bellman was friendly enough to come back to my room at 230 am to help me plug in my tablet, and probably laughed at me on his way back down. One of the first things I wanted to do was take a nice hot shower(and blast the a/c!) The shower had a rainfall type shower head in the ceiling, and a removable/adjustable shower head on the wall. Very cool! The design was modern and chic. I had forgotten to pack a hairbrush, and when I woke up in the morning, I was exploring the room and seeing what was where. I found a box under the vanity mirror and opened it. Lo and behold, complimentary COMB! They must have known me ;-) ALso provided were toothbrush, toothpaste, soap, shampoo, conditioner, razor, sanitary bag, etc. Well stocked! I normally don’t drink from the fridge in rooms because it’ over priced, but I think I’ll be trying every soda in the fridge to see how different it tastes from back home. ;-) It is literally 15 steps from the MRT. SOCONVENIENT! The pool is gorgeous. I haven’t ventured into it yet, it doesn’t look very deep but I’m hoping it’s nice and cool with this equatorial heat! It has lounge chairs on the deck and the beautiful flower petals look perfectly fallen into the pool :-P Pool towels are provided in the room. Also, the pool is on the third floor, so although there’s a bit of construction going on outside the hotel right now, the view is pretty neat! Free wi-fi in your room, although I haven’t found I can get it in the lobby yet. The bedding is so comfortable and smells fresh and clean. I am so pleased I chose to stay at Dorsett, and although I probably won’t be traveling to Singapore again, I would recommend this hotel to someone I wanted to feel taken care of. Highly recommend! I’m a hotel snob and I’m blown away by Dorsett.

The location is good, with the train station and bus stop right outside. The not so good part is it is either just outside the CBD/ERP(electronic road toll) section or right at the edge inside it. Either way, depending on where you get a taxi from, there might be surcharges. The parking garage is a Godsend for those who are bad with street(parallel) parking or who just want their cars to be with shade. The iffy thing about the parking garage will be the mechanized parking if you are still late to grab the limited regular spots. I just wonder how it works when the place is full. The hotel itself is blessed coolness with the AC working in tip top condition, an important factor when it is 32 – 37 celsius outside. The staff is polite and helpful. The valet uncle directed my friend to the parking garage when she got lost trying to find the entrance. He even offered to walk with her to Keong Saik Road further down the area when she asked for directions. Thankfully she saw me before they made the trek over. That was exceptional customer service. The main restaurant was empty in the afternoon, not sure if it was closed, so we just sat at the couch in the lobby for a natter and cooling off period before heading to the diner just around the corner, which was part of Dorsett Residences. This would be a good hotel for those who wish to be near public transportation a bit away from the shopping belt or marina area. It is at the end of Chinatown so it is rich in culture and history. It is also near the Singapore General Hospital which may be convenient for those who come here for medical treatments.

Nice modern hotel conveniently located right next to the MRT. Staff was very nice. Room was a tad small, but from what I hear, rooms in Singapore are like New York, typically pretty small square footage. The room was very nice and modern though. Nice bathroom, and rainfall shower. Only thing was that the water temperature in the shower would fluctuate drastically at times. We stayed 2 nights, and it wasn’t so bad that I had to complain about it. Overall a good stay and good experience.
