Pivovarský šenk Na Parkánu

Nach dem Brauereibesuch war der Hunger sehr groß. Etwas typisch tschechisches sollte es sein. Von der Brauerei aus wurde uns dieses Restaurant empfohlen, dass auch zu Fuß sehr schnell zu erreichen ist. Nach einigem Suchen in den Gassen von Pilsen haben wir es dann auch gefunden.
Alle Tische waren reserviert, dennoch durften wir Platz nehmen, da wir uns dort nicht sehr lange aufhalten wollten. Das Restaurant war von Einheimischen, sowie Touristen besucht. Deshalb war die Karte auch auf Deutsch übersetzt. Etwas erstaunlich, aber für mich nicht störend war, dass man dort rauchen darf.
Das Essen war sehr lecker, eben typisch rustikal. Das Auge isst leider nicht mit. Trotzdem ist dieses Restaurant bei einem Besuch in Pilsen schon fast ein MUSS. Das merkte man dann auch daran, dass das Restaurant umso später es wurde, richtig voll war.

In Pilsen angekommen mit großem Hunger sind wir auf dieses Restaurant gestoßen.
Wir wurden nett begrüßt und wir wurden zu einem Tisch geführt.
Wir hatten Glück, das wir so früh waren somit bekamen wir einen Tisch der erst 2,5 Std später reserviert war.
Die Speisekarten waren auch auf Deutsch übersetzt und die Getränke sowie Speisen schnell aufgenommen.
Was für uns «deutsche» ungewöhnlich war, das man im kompletten Lokal rauchen durfte.
Beim Anrichten des Tellers wurde nicht auf die Optik geachtet, obwohl man sagt «das Auge isst mit»
Jedoch war das Essen sehr lecker und reichlich.
Bevor wir das Restaurant verließen wurde es auch sehr voll und dementsprechend laut.
Wenn man typisch Tschechisch essen möchte, ist man auf jeden Fall hier gut aufgehoben !

Wow! Went in for the unfiltered pilsner and some goulash. We shared the goulash and a pig knee. The meat was perfect. One item of note, the shredded white stuff on the side is NOT cheese. Don’t take a huge forkful unless you really like horseradish. Just sayin’. As for the beer, there is none better. And it’s less than $ 2 a glass.
The service seems a bit different here. Some of the staff came across as a bit rude like mentioned below, but I don’t think it’s malicious. I think it’s just very direct. They were very accommodating, explained things, and provided an overall fantastic experience.

Das Gulasch, im Brot serviert, war würzig und gut. Meine scharfe Wurst (?) –kalt, wusste ich beim Bestellen nicht– war annehmbar, aber auf keinen Fall scharf.
Annehmbarer Durchschnitt.

Ordered off the English language menu. I started with a vegetable salad, composed of sweet red peppers, tomatoes, onions, cucumber (I don’t see it on the menu online) served in a light brine.
I then got the Brewer’s plate (stewed smoked pork loin end, roast sausage, roast pork, white sausage, mustard, horseradish and spicy cabbage). In Czech: Uzenářská fošna (uzená krkovička, pečená klobása, pečený vepřový špalek, bílá klobása, hořčice, čerstvý křen, chodské zelí).
The vegetables were crunchy and fresh. Not a type of salad I’ve had before, but it was good to get some fresh vegetables. The meats were interesting and diverse. I find I like the sausages with paprika (pečená klobása I think — like Spanish chorizo, except with a mild paprika or pimenton, as it’s called in Spain). The white sausage was like a high-​end artisanal Brooklyn-​made breakfast sausage, interesting and enjoyable.
The sauerkraut was fresh, not an industrial prepackaged type, and was nicely seasoned. The horseradish was very fresh and strong — I couldn’t eat very much of it, as it was like sniffing wasabi.
I didn’t get a beer, as I had to be focused immediately after lunch, but hope to return for the unfiltered brew. Only real downside was the amount of smoke inside — the only reason we avoided being inundated with cigarette smoke was that we sat in a side room with nobody else in it. Judging by the number of reserved signs at the tables, if you go for dinner, try to get reservations.

I had unfiltered Pilsner and pork knuckle with horse radish and mustard and it was absolutely delicious. Highly recommended.

Did a quick stop in Plzen (Pilsen) for lunch in our way from Praha (Prague). I wasn’t expecting much from Unilocal since Pilsen isn’t a major European city, but thankfully I was wrong.
I had one their main dish. The roast pork knuckle served with spinach dumpling. Of course, the main reason to visit this place was for the Unquell (unpasteurized/​unfiltered) which was so disappointing in Prague. The beer did not disappoint here, very good beer. The food was great too. Went a bit after lunch time so we sat outside in their small patio. The patio is great for a sunny day, plenty of shade. The inside looked nice too, but for a sunny day I recommend outside. They take Visa and have WIFI. It is next to the Plzen Beer Museum which we skipped. It is also across the street from a Marriott Courtyard.
I recommend this place.

Compared to the other places in Pilzen on of the best. Compared with other places in the world. not so good.
The beer museum is next door. When paying our entry to the museum we were given drinking vouchers for a free beer in Na Parkánu.
Na Prakánu is a pretty bar/​restaurant, traditional style I think. There was life music when we where there.
We had an excellent steak. Really above average.
But, the service was rather rude. To be honest though, we went to a couple of bars en restaurants in Pilzen and waiters were rude everywhere. So I guess it is just a cultural misunderstanding.
Watch out! The waiter made two mistakes:
1: After having used the vouchers (small beers) I ordered another small beer but received a large one.
2: When we paid the free beers (vouchers) were on the bill! We only noticed after we had left and didn’t go back.
I wonder if it was really a mistake.
