When I found out there was a brewery tour in York, and a mere ten minute walk from our hotel(30 if you go the direction we did!) I had to do it. Tickets are an amazingly cheap £8 and include a guided tour of this working micro-brewery, and 41⁄3 pints of any draft ales of your choice. Or a softie, if, like my Mother bear, you’re not an ale fan. Or you could donate your tokens to your beer loving friends. The tour was taken by a friendly wee chap that worked in the adjacent bar, which is an old Tudor building, complete with mismatching, retro furniture, and small shop. We saw round the working brew room, got to sample some malt and crush some hops. The tour was about 40 minutes, or so, and was really interesting. Then on to the beer sampling! As I mentioned, the mother isn’t a beer fan, so I was lucky enough to sample pretty much most of the range, from the very drinkable Pilau Weisse, to the chocolatey goodness of Black Bess. I would definitely recommend this to any beer fans out there.
