While we did not experience SLUGGISH service(wink, wink) our food was slightly slugged. Okay that second pun wasn’t good but you can imagine being compared to a slug isn’t exactly a good thing… We wandered into The Slug & Lettuce thanks to the attractive sign out front that said«½ price meals Monday»…(They have different deals on different days) And, when we wandered in to find a table to sit at, we were also attracted to the large portions being sent to the tables among us… That did in fact look quite appetizing. That being said, looks an be quite deceiving, for when our food arrived(a burger for the gent, some salmon for me)… We were rather underwhelmed. The burger looked like an over sized and over cooked hockey puck… And it tasted about the same apparently(he couldn’t even finish it, which is MOSTDEFINITELY saying something) and my salmon, while edible and okay(and presented so pretty that I posted a photo on Instagram)… It was lacking in flavor, which honestly, is really hard to do to salmon! I ordered this dish without the butter sauce, and I can tell, it needed it! Of course though, I was pretty hungry so I licked my plate… And was told to order more food if I were hungry(I mean ½ off meals after all) but I shockingly said: «no, I’m okay, I’ll wait til dinner…» — this is completely unheard of for me! We were both thrilled that our meals were ½ off because we would have felt slightly robbed otherwise… SPEAKINGOFROBBED… We ordered two waters as our drinks and they charged £2EACH for them!!! What a rip! So yeah… Maybe go to this restaurant on the ½ off drinks or desserts day… Perhaps those are their specialities… Or you know what? Just wander further into York, I promise you’ll find something tastier!

Decent for a drink. Very big bar. Prices are«normal» for a city bar. Plenty of drinks to choose from. They do food — and lots of people are sitting about eating all the time, so it must be at least OK. We go in here on nights out.

The Slug and Lettuce focuses on tourists and you see it in the way they treat their customers. I have not experienced things like the ones in the other reviews but that is mostly because I just do not go there anymore. The last time I went, they wanted me to pay £11 for a white russian(that is almost twice the amount of money you pay for a zombie) Because it was not on the menu everything had to be charged separately. I left after that and went somewhere else. I wonder if the staff gets a lot of abuse by customers. It can’t be fun to work there.

I do find this slug and lettuce a little overrated. Its nice but I think its a bit expensive and there are other places in town where the food and drink is just as good or better, and not as expensive. Its nice and clean and modern inside but like I said I dont think its anything amazing.

lugar agradable con unas bonitas vistas al rio Ouse. muy buena música. Buen servicio. La comida no es nada especial pero cumple cometido.

Really run down inside! There’s paint peeling off the walls and the floor and tables are sticky — numerous people were asking the bar staff if they could please have their tables cleared. I even asked for a cloth but instead got a grumpy ‘what table?’ and a half-arsed attempt at begrudgingly cleaning it but it still meant I didn’t want to put my elbows near it.

despite a modern looking interior, I found the atmosphere sterile, the staff did not seem all that friendly, but the beer was good. the beer, I found to be very price, okay if your flush. I dont think I will be going there again

Not a great experience. Poor service and rude staff. Wife two week old son were kicked out on a Saturday at 6pm as ‘no children are allowed because of our licence’ Having checked with the licensing magistrate this is not true. Just plain rude.

Went for lunch on Saturday 10th October. Had a pint of Peroni £3.95 whilst reading the menu. Never got served so cannot say if the food is good. Obviously the service isn’t so good on my experience. Went over the road to Oniells which turned out OK.

A real tourist attraction of a bar, as it’s right on the waterfront and has a wide view over the Ouse. It strikes a nice balance between being posh, and being relaxed– it’s clean, with a good quality but expensive menu, but it’s relaxed enough that passing tourists can feel welcome to sit in and have a soft refreshing drink as well. There are some interesting cocktails and a selection of half-decent snacks, nothing to write home about but certainly not bad. If you can grab them, they have some very comfortable sofas, a great place for a little relaxing break to your trip. Most nights it’s fairly comfortable(it’s mostly too expensive for students), but on a Friday and Saturday night it turns into a totally different beast, it’s a pre-club warm-up spot and best avoided by anyone who isn’t planning to go to the nightclubs just round the corner.

The worst service I have ever encountered. Our order was taken and completely forgotten about. When staff were repeatedly reminded of it, it did eventually arrive — cold. It was sent back and replaced, I imagine it had been sat in the kitchen waiting for staff to bring it out. Will not be visiting again — will leave it to the tourists
