Great coffee, awesome cakes and seriously friendly staff. As long as you don’t fall on the rather extreme staircases this is a great place to go for a drink. The table and chair situation is a little sparse so you may need to wait if you want to sit down but it is worth it. This coffee snob was definitely content with the strong, richness of her long black. Lots to love about this little gem.

Not much to say apart from if you fancy a flat white or decent coffee — this is the place to go in the centre of town! We just got takeout but there’s a surprising amount of room upstairs which means it’s a place you can hang out in as well as get your beans to go. The staff were pretty friendly but be warned they don’t take any cards at all so it’s cash only sorry folks!

Buy your coffee and cake here, not at one of the despicable chains. Best coffee I had in York. Rich and flavorful, strong without bitterness. Barista totally knew his stuff. Personally, I’m not a big cake eater, but the bit of walnut cake I had here just made me want more. Excellent complex flavors, not too sweet. Staff busy and businesslike, but perfectly friendly and attentive.

Their caramel latte’s certainly give Starbucks a run for their money and always good selection of cakes, scones etc, friendly atmosphere with patriotic décor! Keep forgetting to have my loyalty card stamped though, will just have to keep drinking coffees.

i visit this place a tad too often, the sandwiches are always fresh, well filled and dam tasty! its always busy, canbe cramped? but the atmosphere is always one that is of relaxed anticipation its always clean, bit of trivia, toys for kids, books an newspapers scatered about, so there is something for everyone! i could not dot the place on the map for some reason

Coffee Culture serves the best coffee I’ve found since moving to York a year ago. It’s one of the few places in town where you can get a proper flat white and you’re always guaranteed friendly service.

I have been a regular at Coffee Culture for several months. The food is great, especially their all day brekkie with fresh bread and locally made sausages. For lunch, their hummus platters(especially the Istanbul) are delicious and great for sharing. They have a great range of coffee, teas and smoothies. It’s located in a cozy, old, timber framed place and has the great atmosphere and character you appreciate in a coffee shop. If you don’t see a place to sit when you first stop in, keep going up the stairs! There’s 2 floors winding up to the top of the building. The staff are friendly and helpful. The prices are great too!

This used to be one of my favourite places for coffee in York, however it seems there has been a change in management(I could be wrong) — garish new décor, the excellent ciabatta bacon sandwiches are no more, the chatty friendly staff are gone. Still a lovely place, climb the rickety twisty stairs to lovely squashy sofas, especially the first floor table in the window. I will give it another go, it may have been teething problems, if you’re reading Coffee Culture — please bring back radio 2!
