Its rare that I have cause to award anywhere five stars, but I feel that in the case of Campana’s, its warranted. Its an Italian themed place in a city which is overflowing with Italian themed places — some good, some bad. This is the best by a considerable margin though. The building is a grade 2 listed building, and so comes with all the charm and character of a time gone by. the interior is wood panelled and tastefully decorated. There are two areas inside — a small section designed for party bookings, which add an air of privacy a lot of places dont manage to do, and the main, larger restaurant. To the menu — you can choose from starters such as mussels cooked in garlic, herbs, white wine and tomato, or Brie fritto, as well as an assortment of crostinis and other traditional Italian fare. For the main course, there are the usual pasta dishes and pizzas to choose from, which are all cooked to perfection, along with a selection of meat and fish main courses, with steaks, roast duck and sea bass all found on the menu. To follow, theres a range of desserts to choose from. All the food is complimented, as you’d probably expect, with a comprehensive Italian themed wine list. Also, theres an open plan kitchen area, so you can watch the chefs at work. Highly recommended without a doubt.
