Our local for our stay impressed by serving 5 ales and a cider! Less impressive was the fact that the TVs were on, with sound and were tuned into the X Factor. Sport is one thing, reality mind rot another thing altogether! Enjoyed sippin’ on a Golden Pippen

So I decided to pop in because it was near my friends house… first thing I noticed is that yes this place is very nicely decorated with dining chairs with the odd tv dotted here and there… very comfy… First off… we were not even meeted and greeted… and we swanned around for a bit unsure where to sit. as sometimes you have to be led to the dining area. we just got stared at… like we were unusual specimens. which is what we are I guess… After sitting down we then had to fetch our own menus from the bar… the menu was very limited for myself. it contained your generic fish and chips, pies, scampi and chilli… Anyway so I got up to order my food at the bar. which a gent sharply said ‘its this side to order food’…because this was signposted so clearly… When I went to the other side of the bar it was then that I saw a large Daily Specials Board… what I did not understand is why was it back here out of view. there was me earlier struggling to find something on the menu when there was this. with its five choices of soup for its ‘Soup of The Day’…I changed my mind to a tuna pasta bake after looking at this and asked if I had to move to the other side of the bar to order a drink… a bit sarcastically yes… The young girl that poured my Speckled Hen pint, seemed shy but nice. but she did not look like she was getting much support from her colleagues… When I received it… I did look at it dubiously… by the time I sat down with it it looked like a ice cream float. so my friend returned it to get the giant head removed. When the food arrived… my friends chicken melt sandwich looked ok. but mine did look like puke, but I thought I would try it before I made a full judgement… it wasn’t terrible. but it wasn’t great either. it did not taste fresh like sign had advertised… it reminded me of those Youngs fish pies you get from the freezer… luckily this was bulked out with garlic bread… I then decided to risk dessert. Who I assumed was the manager seemed very nice but stank of body odour, which was a bit off putting… and then complained to his staff why there was no salt and pepper outside, When he brought the dessert over he then realised our plates from before were still there. which he took away. those plates had been sat there for 30 minutes, The £5 tofffee sundae was poor… the toffee icecream tasted old… the way it was clumped together and had that gritty texture… the flake was nice… Overall this place needs some serious re thinking… for it to be Saturday and empty like that is scary… the fact that they cannot get basics such as a tuna pasta bake and toffee sundae right is worrying. The staff need to be more attentive. and hygienic… oh and get a new chef!

Went to the Bay Horse for the first time today for a drink, although they serve food also. I thought the building it’s in looked quite ‘grand’ and is one of the many beautiful buildings of York. I saw some other people being served their food and it looked rather ‘posh’ and delicious too although that is merely my eyes talking, I couldn’t comment on the actual taste! I found it to be a friendly place with a lovely guy who served our drink and a friendly relaxed atmosphere.
