After staying in larger hotels/Inns it was nice to stay in such a quaint home. Darren was great — so friendly and recommended some sights that turned out to be our favorites of the trip. Room was clean, comfortable and the lodge was very close to the city center. If I ever find myself in York again I will for sure be staying at the Alcuin Lodge.

I visited this B&B during the summer of 2006. I was traveling with a group of 12 from my university. We had stayed in 2 B&B’s prior to this(one in Edinburgh, Scotland & the other in the Lake District). This B&B was absolutely FANTASTIC! The room I stayed in had 1 queen bed and 1 single bed. There was also a small love seat for additional seating. We generally had 7 – 8 people in this room comfortably. There was also a large bathroom with a shower, sink, and toilet all attached to the room. The other rooms I saw were spacious and well-kept, but I believe the one I was in was the largest. The place was kept clean and was very comfortable. Things seemed new(there wasn’t that musty smell to things). The breakfast served was so great. There was a wide selection of things and the hosts were quite accomodating. One member of our group asked for maple syrup to go with French toast and the hosts regretted to inform us they didn’t have any on hand. However, the next morning they proudly displayed a bottle of syrup they purchased especially for the young man who had requested it. So kind, and totally unexpected! On a night that our group decided to stay in and have a card tournament, the hosts invited us to the dining room and spent some time talking with us and listening to all of our adventures throughout the UK at that time. The location was right outside of the city walls — but close to a large park(museum gardens if my memory serves correctly). At night this park is closed — which is something to keep in mind if staying in the pubs past dark… just be sure to know of the alternate route around the city walls. If I ever find myself back in York(and I hope I do!) I would stay at the Alcuin Lodge again — no question about it.
