I’ve been to Spice Route a couple of time and have enjoyed it each time. The staff is great and the atmosphere is quiet and can be romantic. The wine list is quite good and the Tikka Masala was outstanding. The vegetarian options are also nice and wide in range. It is a bit of a challenge to find if you aren’t familiars with Windsor. It is down the stairway just next to King & Castle pub.

Windsor Curry Club meets at a different restaurant each month, rating each experience for Flavour, Service, Atmosphere and Value for Money. We ask the restaurant to choose the menu in advance, giving them the opportunity to serve their best. We visited the Spice Route in July 2011 and were served a predominantly vegetarian meal. The restaurant is well regarded for its choice of vegetarian food but the selection served on this occasion was limited, unimaginative and a bit bland. The service could also have been better, the waiter made no real attempt to tell us what was being served. Knowing how good this restaurant has been on previous visits we were disappointed, expected better. Windsor Curry Club rated the modern style Spice Route 5.42 out of 10. The total cost of the meal(Inc. Drinks & Service) was £36.00 a Head.

So, I move to UK for a few months and the one thing I KNOW… GOODINDIANFOOD — but not here. Isn’t it like the national dish of UK or something. First, the wine by the glass is horrible. I wouldn’t even use it for cooking… just gross! Ordered lamb meatballs and chicken curry – no good. The chicken was too curry tasting… no layers or fragrance to the food. It was not at all sophisticated. It could have easily been a frozen Indian dinner. The naan was yum… but how do you screw that up. The bathroom smells like sewage, so its best not to go down there, or you will lose your appetite and perhaps even your meal. Service was generic but they will add an 10% service charge. Gonna try another spot for the national dish.

Off a long plane ride, a long drive, meetings and then more driving, the one thing I was looking for was a nice Indian Restaurant. Spice Route delivered! Parking — You can park in the parking lot in Town Center and walk the back way to the restaurant. Quick and easy. Bring coins though for the parking… Ambiance — Tucked away in a small alley, and a narrow but long restaurant, the ambiance is nice, generically modern and comfortable. not sure why so many toilets in UK are downstairs, but that is only difficult after too many drinks. Food — Very nice food here. Enjoyed the heat factor as it was just right. Can’t miss the great food. We had Aloo Gobi, Garlic Naan, Rogan Josh and Chicken with Buttercream(cannot remember the name) All was very, very good. Service — Not bad. A bit slow, they were a bit busy, but comfortable and for sure pleasant. Go Back Factor — I think this is a great place and would come back again for sure, next time in UK.

Came here about once per week during my extended stay in Windsor. We had heard a lot about this restaurant from co-workers based in the UK and thought to take advantage. Was never disappointed, although the service was a tad slow. Plan to sit for a while. Apparently nothing is cooked in advance which on one hand is great to know my food is fresh, but on the other a little annoying that it takes so long. As a fan of super-spicy foods, I hit up the vindaloos. Co-workers in my party tended to be less adventurous and went with the flavorful, yet much less hot, dishes. Was never dissatisfied with a meal. After all, we did make it a point to come here once per week!

Sis had been here years before so after a great day of storming Windsor Castle, we decided a nice curry was in order There were about 2 other tables in the restaurant & have to say the service was super-slow to the point we thought we’d been forgotten But forgotten we had not been as the yummy food started pouring out: Halloumi Tikka — Greek cheese w/indian spices… we found this to be really bland & was our least fav Subz Khubani Kofta — Apricot Stuffed Veggie Balls(like Malai Kofta with a kick) — this was my fav of the meal. Extremely flavorful & hot enough to make my nose run And that’s *just* like how I like my spice! Dessert was likewise just okay — we got the Firni which is molded, grinded rice w/a raspberry coulis… not very flavorful but I imagine this dish is usually bland anyway so no harsh judgment here A Table of 20 came in as we were ordering dessert & w/the previous slow service, we knew we’d better hightail it out of there or we’d miss our train back to London Overall, Sis only thought it was okay but I’d totally come back for the Kofta & maybe try to order other Appies next time

We thought we’d give Spice route a go, as it was award winning, but the food was at best average and definitely not worth the prices. Service was also unfriendly. Much better food and service at the Viceroy.
