Really impressed with the Lighthouse. The meals looked fantastic(we only ate dessert which was lovely & reasonably priced). The cocktails are great though slightly pricey(London prices!). Attentive service and ideal location right in Windermere too. Recommended!

If I had to guess, I’d say this place exists and seems to do well because it has a steady supply of tourists who have never been there and go because it’s in the middle of Windermere and looks nice. The food is prepared with very little love — plain tomato sauce slapped on plain noodles, low-quality ready-made antipasti arranged on a plate, expensive gooey cheese pizza. Probably fine for a drink, def not for dinner.

Roast pepper soup on a windy & rainy afternoon was just what the doctor ordered. Chicken caesar salad was nice too, yet they forgot anchovies. The service was rather rude. When our card was rejected, they acted as if we didn’t have money and wanted to run away — didn’t like that attitude *at all*. Also, the atmosphere of the place is a bit confusing — it’s new, and on the 1st floor they have glass walls looking out to the street — which looked fantastic, but I left feeling confused… is it a hip new place in Lake District, or is this an old place pretending to be hip?

The rules of a good service is not only to take your order and bring it out but also check on you after your first bite, and to check on you in a middle of your meal to refill your drinks. This place lacks of all steps but the ordering and brining it out. When I wanted something I had to yell out the waitress who was busy chatting with other staff behind the counter. We were done with tea and nobody checked on us. I wanted Tabasco for my soup there were nobody to ask for it Same for the freshly ground pepper. Food is okay. Nothing special. If you are here for a quick pit stop this place is okay.

The atmosphere was good. Everyone seemed to have a peasant time here. We didn’t make a reservation but the waiting line wasn’t very long. Food was okay. The flavor was good but it wasn’t hot enough. We ordered lasagne, it was just warm, not as hot as I thought. If the food was hotter, I will give it a better rating.

I’ve eaten both lunch and dinner here, and rate both highly. First off, the staff are lovely. Second, the ambiance — outdoors, ground floor or first floor — are lovely. Of course, most importantly, the food is excellent. Fresh, interesting, filling, good value for money. Standouts include the steak sandwich and Mediterranean platter(lunch) as well as the Greek lamb burger and porcini pork(dinner), all of which were excellent. If there was a minor quibble, it’s that it would be nice to see some local real ales on draught. But the Peroni does pair well with the fare. Highly recommended.

Très bons cocktails sans alcool, des burgers sympas et un très bon service. Les prix restent corrects pour une ville aussi touristique.

Stumbled along this place when I went on holiday in the Lake District. They have some extremely awesome and tasty cocktails and great desserts. Can’t speak about the rest of the menu, sorry, but it looked nice! My sister and I had the banoffie pie and smashed pav and the waitress didn’t blink at our request for a glass of milk each. Nice. I will definitely be going back next time I am in the area.

We have this rule that if we aren’t served within a decent amount of sitting down — like 15 minutes — we leave. Good bye.
After driving for quite some time along the country roads of the Lake District, we found ourselves in Windermere. We were in desperate need of a coffee/tea break. After parking we wandered around the Town Centre and came across The Lighthouse. This multi-level café/restaurant is situated along one of the main roads. Upon entering, the ground floor was quite busy with patrons relaxing and enjoying their afternoon tea. We were directed upstairs to another dining area that wasn’t so busy. It was a bright contemporary space with large bay windows looking out onto the town. The boyfriend and I relaxed over a couple scones with butter and jam, and drinks. Surprisingly, the scones were delectable… which actually inspired me to bake some of my own upon returning to Glasgow. Service was pretty good. I can’t really comment on the food other than it looked pretty decent from what I saw being served next to us. Next time we’re in Windermere, we’ll have to try out the food.

The café/bar/restaurant is quite prominent in the centre of Windermere as it sits between the two main roads. It has three floors. The ground floor is mostly for counter service, informal lunch or drinks. The first floor is a bright and airy space with large windows looking out on three sides. The top floor has a more cosy and intimate feel with a fireplace and more comfortable seats. We went for lunch here and the menu was broad ranging and well-priced. Sandwiches and salads to full pub-esque meals. I had the steak and ale pie which came not as a pie but as filling and a seperate pastry top(and potatoes and peas). Very filling. And tasty. And at £7, very reasonable. The service is decent but the thing that makes this place stand out is the lovely décor throughout the all the quirky floors. Lots of character.
