Ok this zoo is not big and fancy, parts of it seem quite tired and there’s a huge children’s play park that seems cluttered and quite ugly to look at along with the odd creepy garden sculpture! The shop is tiny and I can’t comment on the café as it was too busy for us to go near it. HOWEVER despite all these points this place has a certain charm and is unique compared to the larger commercial zoos in that I felt I got to see the animals much more ‘up close and personal’. They have many more species than I ever imagined from arctic wolves and tapirs to spider monkeys and barn owls. Also a cute farm park area with goats, Guinea pigs, rabbits etc where you can enter the enclosure and feed/stroke them, great for young children. The best part, for me personally, was the fact that this zoo have worked so hard and raised thousands last year to rescue 4 ex circus lions and 3 ex circus brown bears. They’ve built two huge impressive enclosures for these animals and are working hard to help them adapt and recover from years of mistreatment. I applaud them for this work and will certainly be visiting again and recommending to everyone in order to help them gain more coverage and funding to advance future similar projects. Good going five sisters, keep up the good work!
