Like Bison? Strange but true — the Bison Centre near Warminster has fields with live bison in. Yep — the big hairy things you’d normally see roaming the plains of the Wild West. You can also see Elk, Raccoons and Prairie Dogs, if that’s what floats your boat! It’s actually a very pleasant day out. There’s over 30 acres of land, and you follow a completely natural trail, walking around the various fields(it’s a good hour or so if you stroll slowly). Not reccomended for the elserly or anyone with mobility problems though. We went on a nice sunny day, although there had been rain and consequently boots or old sturdy shoes would have been a better bet than my sandals! It’s only open in season — April to September, but well worth a ramble on a very different day out. They also have various Theme Days with re-enactments from the American Civil War Society and traditional Native American gatherings. There’s a small farm shop where you can buy frozen bison steaks — guaranteed to liven up any BBQ!
