Don’t see what all the fuss is about, I was told all these praises. And when I ordered fish and chips it was nothing like I expected, the fish was more like the fish from a restaurant and the chips were not the type you would expect from a ‘fish and chip’ shop

I love a visit to Troon. Even in the rain, I just love the drive and to park up and watch the sea. And obviously partake in the obligatory chippy whilst there! The Wee Hurrie is a wee hidden gem, you’d never find it unless told about it or recommended as its so out the way! It’s right on the harbour and you quite often see the seals coming up to say hello. The freshness of the food is outstanding, the term sea to plate is definitely true here, the fish could practically jump off the boat! I had the King Prawn tempura and for 10HUGE prawns with chips, sweet chilli and a wedge of lemon I paid £6.20! The quality and size of those prawns in a Glasgow restaurant you’d pay at least £20! It is pricier than other chip shops but your paying for quality and freshness that you won’t get elsewhere! And the chips are outstanding! Worth a visit on your next jaunt to Troon.

A bit out the way but well worth the walk on a lovely afternoon. Good sized portions and very reasonable given the quality. Service very good also. Overall very nice little takeaway for limited seats with wonderful view

This chippy is really cool. The fact you have to really know about it and make the journey specifically(it’s past a big lumber yard at the end of a pier/harbour) makes it feel a little exclusive too, and perfect for finding on Unilocal. What sets this apart from standard chippies? –They cook to order, even the chips are cooked to order(this means you face at least a 10 minute wait after ordering till you get your food) –There’s a wide range of different fish, all with different prices –You can have noodles instead of chips(but don’t do that, the chips are great) –It doesn’t smell or taste like a standard Scottish chippie(I’m looking at you Blue Lagoon) –You get to look into a wee harbour when waiting/eating, and you’ll also spot a seal or two –They do MUSHYPEAS! Not properly(it’s microwaved) but still, it’s good –The price is slightly higher than a standard chippy but the portions are great and the quality is well worth it

It’s the kind of place you see Rick Stein going to and think jt a looks cool. Super fresh fish, tempura like batter, superb value, and a stones throw from the sea. It’s a little rough round the edges but that’s part of the charm. Frito misto is a nice selection.

You can see the menu in previously posted pictures — it’s still the same today! I went for the haddock and chips, with gluten free batter. For two meals and two drinks, we spent about 16 quid — quite reasonable. The place is tiny and we ended up eating in the car, which was fine as it was quite windy out. The food was delicious, the batter to fish ratio was perfect, and the tartar sauce was really tasty. Quite worth the 45 minute drive from Glasgow!

I was visiting family in Scotland in 2012 and my uncle thought we could all try this place since they’d had great reviews. Now granted, I’m from the USA, but I was floored after the first bite. I completely inhaled my entire meal of fish n chips and it has ruined me for life. Looking forward to my next trip across the pond

No Hurry in the Wee Hurrie!!! Went there on Saturday at peak time 6pm+ I advise anyone else not to do this. We spent an incredible 35 minutes queing for food it was that busy and the queue snaked out of the store and round the corner such is its popularity. Possibly by design as I was frozen stiff by the time i got my food so the hot nosh released my frozen fingers clasped tightly around my wallet in the dark and my toes regained some composure. Some other reviewers have criticised the prices but to be honest £4.80 for a haddock supper is good value in my opinion and the fish was pretty darn good although the chips leave something to be desired giving one that dry boak feeling in the back of the throat and an immediate lunge for the fizzy!!! Menu is very comprehensive and everything is cooked fresh from the dock and all the prices are good so dont believe the negative hype on this. Venue is a dismal affair but then i have always found Troon to be a right dismal and dead toon… and difficult to find but that probably adds to its allure for the unwary — unfortunately almost every car that pulled up was some monster 4×4 or flash gits car with bling wheels with the obligatory baseball caps, techno music at full tilt and the usual chav knob-end behind the wheel which doesnt add to the ambience(if there were any!). I was half expecting to get knifed on the way home as we were walking and this is not a good neighbourhood in the dark on your own so be warned but thankfully all was well and the drunken yobs that threw a can of coke at one of the cars speeding off at 100mph didnt see me in the dark, either that or my 6 foot one of manliness chomping away and grimacing in the freezing cold made them think twice. If you do decide to go, take your car and dont walk like i did — bring a minder or large lad with you and a duvet for protection against the hostile elements and be prepared for a monumental wait of gargantuan proportions. Oh and i never got to feed the seals that apparently swim around the harbour — they were probably mugged by the local nedheads or seagulls that swoop from nowhere to take your eye out should you inadvertently flick a chip the wrong way. Still not as good as the Philadelphia in GWR.

It was a lazy Sunday, the sun was out, and the skies were blue, so we jumped in the car and headed for a walk and lunch in Troon. The famous Wee Hurrie fish and chippery is not easy to find, but I remembered to drive past Scotts of Troon restaurant and keep on going until the road ran out where the fishing boats were moored. The Wee Hurrie and their sister MacCallums Oyster Bar share a ramshackle brick building with few redeeming features other than they sell some of the best ever fish and chips and seafood respectively. Oh and they have a great view of those boats! I think half of Ayrshire was having the same idea and we bagged one of the last parking spaces and joined the queue. Most seemed to be taking their fish suppers away or eating outside on the steps or single picnic table. I prefer to eat sitting down and with luck two stools at the window became available inside. Cod is a rare sight in chippies in this part of the world so it was the popular choice and most excellent. At £5.60 for a battered cod loin you’d be forgiven for having high expectations and it didn’t disappoint. It was served with a pot of tartar sauce, a slice of lemon and oodles of salt and malt vinegar. Yum, and as good as it gets! I had a bit of a ‘moment’ when my fork splintered, sending sharp shards of white plastic into my meal. I thought I’d found all the pieces until I took a bite that had too much crunch. Ew! Next time I’ll take my own sturdy plastic forks. At the prices they charge some cutlery thats fit for purpose wouldn’t go amiss! Sadly the harbour seals didn’t come out to play today but it was lovely seeing the fishing boats bobbing about and yachts sailing up the channel alongside. The Wee Hurrie also serves produce from their smokery including BBQ meats, but most people go for the fish. If you want to push the boat out a portion of battered monkfish costs £8.60 and yes, people were buying it. The Wee Hurrie is worth a wee day trip!

I had the cod and it was without a doubt the best fish and chips I had while in Scotland. I went on a Tuesday around 1:30 so there wasn’t much of a wait, five minutes tops and the staff were very friendly. I brought my food to the beach area nearby and thought the seagulls were going to attack me as I got out of the car but they behaved themselves.

Possibly the best fish and chips in Scotland, definitely in the West, IMHO. the fish is cooked as you order, so there is a wee wait, but it’s crispy, delicious, moist and oh so tasty. My parents live in Troon so we go fairly regularly and it’s consistently great, but VERY popular. Expect a queue when you go, but it’s more than worth it

Worth a trip to Troon just to come here if you’re a fan of good fish and chips. You can sit outside and watch the fisherman carrying the fish off the boats into the back of the shop, so you know it’s pretty fresh! They have a great range of things including tempura, squid, thai fish cakes, and a selection of whatever fish they have — usually sea bass, salmon, cod and haddock at least. Last time I was here, I had fritto misto, although it was really just a fish supper with a selection of fish on it — there was way too much food to finish but it was really good. There can be long queues in summer and it’s not usually open on Mondays so pick your day and get there early if you don’t want to queue for ages. If you can bag the picnic table outside, that’s a great place to sit and eat your fish and chips while watching the seals that swim around the harbour cadging fish off the fishermen.

An easy place to miss if you don’t know it’s there. I came through a recommendation by a neighbour, I was rather hesitant to order anything as my first impression was that the place was dirty, not in one particular area but all over in general. I could see staff using filthy tea towels, and the counter area could have done with a good scrub with hot soapy water. Food 5⁄5 Service 4⁄5 Cleanliness 2⁄5

Possibly Scotland’s best chippy. Hidden out of the way by the fish market. This red brick building is full of the wonders of the sea. Their fresh fish is battered and fried giving some of the nicest tasting seafood in the uk. Get here early to avoid missing out and jump around the corner to enjoy on the beach. Not the cheapest place to eat and it can get very busy on a nice day, this really is a must visit location for any little jaunt to Troon. My personal favourite is their Tempura prawns and chips but I love the monkfish goujons too,

A very good plus is that the fish is made to order, which could mean a wait however fresh food Photo link: The man had the monkfish thick, meaty chunks, chips were not chippy style enough too crispy with him and more tartar sauce on the side. Scampi for me lovely big chunks, best scampi ever! Again more tartar sauce, however I did like the chips Photo link: A serious contender to Anstruther fish n chips.

Excellent fish & chips! Choose from Cod or Haddock and other chip shop options. Located at the end of the harbour road in Troon, Scotland and a bit hard to find, it’s worth the effort. Just ask a local or locate Scott’s restaurant and drive on pass to the end of the road. Turn right and look for the crowd that will be either waiting in line or enjoying their fish! This was a recommendation from my sister-in-law who lives Kilmarnock, Scotland and she was spot on. Enjoy!

Simply the best fish and chip shop I’ve ever been to. Such a choice and everything freshly cooked to order.
