This large family Holt gastro pub cannot be missed as its mansion like proportions loom large on Church Road, one of the major highways in Fixton. As the exterior suggests, The Roebuck is very spacious inside and even when the tables are full of customers it does not feel claustrophobic. The staff are great, they constantly pop over to your table asking if everything is okay and this is a really child friendly venue. What stands out for me here is the Sunday roast dinners. They are slightly more expensive than other pubs(£7.95) but you are paying for quality. I may even say(tentatively) that this roast is a close contender for my mum’s(but don’t tell her). You can choose from chicken, lamb or beef and it arrives with perfectly crispy on the outside, fluffy on the inside roast potatoes, mountains of veg and the gravy does not have a lump in sight. In fact, as gravys go, this is truly splendid. There is a function room upstairs which is available for private functions and it caters for a minimum of 30 people and a maximum of 75. There are choices of three different types of buffet beginning at £7.95 per head up to £12.25 per head. I particularly like the conservatory on the side of this grand pub and there is a beer garden to the rear. The Roebuck has a large menu, large personality and I will be making a trip when the weather gets a little warmer to sit in the beer garden on a Sunday after demolishing a roast.
