The Dart is one of the most beautiful rivers in England & its used for many many film sets as a stand-in for the Amazon, so broad it is. You can see so many wild birds from one of the steamers or private boats that plough up & back to Dittisham(& Agatha Christies’ house which overlooks the river) & on to Dartmouth. I have even seen seals & otters playing in the water near Dartmouth. You can catch a steamer at the appropriately named Steamer Quay in Bridgetown on the other side of the River from the Town Centre. This trip costs £14 return drinks onboard A Round Robin: Bus to Paignton from Totnes, then Train from Paignton to Kingswear then Ferry to Dartmouth & Steamer to Totnes is £21 but is money well spent. Its glorious on a lovely day
