You expect a Tesco Metro to be on the small side but this is really to small and crowded to use comfortably. It is seriously overcrowded and not a pleasure to use. However, with not much competition in central torquay is guaranteed to do good business and the recent closure of Sommerfield and Marks and Spencers food store it will be even busier.

Many see super markets as, a necessary evil of our modern lives and these mini-marts as even more so, but this is far more evil than necessary! Whilst it is gifted with a fine situation within easy reach of car parks and the excellant Torquay bus services and even a nearby taxi rank that is about as user friendly as this place gets. The design of the store is cluttered and poorly signed;it is obviously trying to be like it’s big brother stores and ends up dissappointing, as it must due to lack of space. The very worst of it is once you have battled your way round the store, possibly finding what you wanted to get, you then have to negotiate the woefully inadequate check out. There are, as always, plenty of check outs and it should flow smoothly, but to this day I have NEVER seen it in full working order so there are inevitably long and frustrating queues which the new DIY check outs do nothing to alleviate. With the demise of Somerfields, surely this giant of the supermarket world should look at this unit, assess the lines that sell well and combine them with staples and then ensure that the check outs are manned fully to give their customers a proper metro experience.
