Lovely old pub in a quietish rural setting(busy road noise in the distance). Nice garden out the back and good if you have kids in tow as there is a playground at the back. Rustic with lots of nooks and crannies inside and a range of hand pumped ales. We were a little dissapointed with the food though nearly £12 for fish and chips with a very small piece of fish. The steak sandwich(apparently its famous for this) was ok although the bread was cheap doughy baguette. The steak was a little tough but had fried onions which was nice. A better quality bread would improve this no end. The menu is fairly ‘bog standard’ old fashioned fayre although there is a small range of specials and they were serving curry when we went. All in all a nice pub which could do with upping the quality of its food a bit(to match the prices they charge). Staff were friendly.

Nice old country pub, has nice Bazaar during December. Good menu. I think it needs to encourage their clientelle to Keep Britain Tidy as there are a lot of fags, crisps and booze litter on the road by it littering up the countryside, perhaps from the parties they hold there or from Friday night drinkers. I hope they put out more bins for the drinkers and smokers. If you are having a wedding here, you don’t want photos of the chauffeur driven limo with all the crisp and fag packets in the background. There’s a lot of mess around that part of the road. If you are a smoker and you frequent this pub, please find a bin. A hedge by the road is not the right place!

The Plough is a traditional old English pub, built in the 16th Century and has kept a good balance between old and new — old beams, tables and a traditional fire place, but without flooding the building with brasses and toby jugs. We used to come here all the time, but moved away from the area. It is now under new management, with friendly bar staff and clearly very popular. Eight of us came for dinner last night, but because it was really busy and we hadn’t booked, the food took well over an hour to arrive. The staff managed to find us a large enough table to eat from, as we’d squashed together on a much smaller one, and handed us a card for future bookings.(We’ll know next time). All the dishes arrived together, piping hot and attractively presented with salads/vegetables. Fish pie, fish and chips, lasagne al forno, steak and ale pie, burgers in wraps, salmon and more. Most items on the menu were priced at below £10 and the bill came to about £14 a head including some desserts and coffees. Good choice of beer on draft and bottled.

Beautiful old pub, in powdermill lane. Lots of beams, open fires. difficult to find but well worth the effort. Wonderful beer, wonderful food, and a lovely old barn next to it which can be used for parties weddings etc.
