Although the serious league hockey season has ended, my hockey club also plays in a friendly summer league based at the Old Cranleighan Club. It’s a chance to stretch those limbs and try not to get too unfit over summer. The astroturf pitch is finally starting to settle down a bit — it has been a little sticky since going down a couple of years ago with some uneven bounce but in tonight’s opening game of the summer league, the ball seemed to run much more true. Sadly the bar wasn’t open this evening for some post-match drinks. Equally sadly is the fact that they still haven’t fixed the huge and numerous potholes on the road leading into the ground — it truly resembles a war zone with some of the holes resembling craters.
