So much to my dismay, we haven’t really found ‘our’ fish ‘n’ chip shop yet. Both in Bolton and Swindon… I guess I kind of took my previous chippies for granted! After finding that the restaurant we had planned to go to was closed while the owners were on holiday, I suggested fish and chips since I’ve been going through withdrawals. Honestly, just a whiff of one may have kept me until actually finding one to eat at. Frantically using our mobile phones, we found Trident Fish Bar and decided to give it a go. It is just in the town center surrounded by loads of restaurants, and could be easily missed! If you are driving, parking might be a bit tricky, but we parked on a street just off of Victoria Street. The shop is quite small, no seating inside, so strictly takeaway. The place is sparkly clean and the guy makes everything to order! So you get fresh, hot fish and chips! They have quite a menu including fish cakes, scampi, chicken, battered sausage, and items for vegetarians. They don’t take cards, so make sure you have cash! I had the haddock with medium chips and Mr. Snarky had the cod with medium chips… and a battered sausage. When we ordered, the man behind the counter asked if we would like the dill batter. Interesting! We decided no, but I’d be happy to try it on another visit. It turns out that on Thursday night(not sure if they always do this) the regular batter is a gluten-free option! I think that is wonderful! Although, it would have been nice if they did allow you to choose between the gluten-free and the regular batter. The fish and chip portions are huge, although they can do a smaller portion of chips if you wish. We took our fish and chips to a park and have a little picnic. The chips are super thick and I really enjoyed them! I couldn’t stop eating them, but they are so filling! The fish was delicious, the batter was ok. The consistency was a bit thicker than the regular batter, so if they could thin it down a bit so it isn’t batter heavy would be great. However, it was super crispy, so that was a plus! One last little bit is that the batter did taste a bit different… perhaps a pinch of salt may have corrected it??? Don’t know, but I think we have agreed that we would love to come back and try the regular batter… maybe even the dill batter. We may have found our chippy in Swindon!
