The Oak Room cannot be all things to all people, and yet it seemingly effortlessly walks the line between genuine elegance, fine dining, impeccable service and somehow, an intimate, welcoming and very English vibe. Stuffy it is not; this is special, yes, but relaxed — perfect for a family celebration needing a finer touch(and heftier bill). As the name suggests, this stand-alone restaurant at four-star Moor Hall Hotel, is decorated with oak panels, yet is not so wooden — in texture and atmosphere — that sweeping views of the grounds aren’t afforded. But you’ll be quite happy looking at your immediate surroundings without the need to gaze outside. The room really is impeccably presented. Prices start from £27 in the evenings, with hours of opening roughly between 7.30pm and 9.30pm, although variations on traditional lunches are offered during Sunday afternoons. Wine exaggerates the bill, but it’s difficult not to order amid the setting. If The Oak Room proves just that bit too stuffy for some among your party, or even yourself, there is a far less formal bar located in the next room which makes for a pre or post-meal rendezvous spot. From there, the attractive outdoor seating is easily accessible so it should not be too long before you relax.
