We came here for my mom’s birthday and I was expecting a Wetherspoons style cheap drink/pub grub sort of place however I was quite impressed that there was table service. We went on a Saturday lunchtime over Easter and the service was a little slow at times particularly when we were waiting for our deserts and the bill. There was plenty of choice on the menus and on the specials boards. Our table had the classic burger, sauteed mushrooms, BBQ chicken melt, gammon steak and three steaks and all our food looked delicious and the steaks were cooked the way we requested. For desert we ordered Big Mama’s Toffee Flapjack Apple Pie and two Caramel Crunchy Sundae and to be honest we could have shared these as the desert portions are massive! We’d stuck to soft drinks and between the six of us our bill came to about £60 which was quite reasonable given the quality of the food and the huge portions.

There are only five words needed to take me back to The Blake Barn — ‘TWOFORONE’ and ‘GIANTDESSERTS’. The ‘two for one’ offer is great and is ideal for a group of friends getting together or families going out to dinner. The menu has a lot to offer but don’t forget to take a peek at the specials board. If you fancy a lighter bite then I’d recommend you go for one of the sandwiches. My favourite is the battered cod coujons baguette. You get two massive fish fingers smothered in tartar sauce(personally I prefer ketchup), some tortilla chips and a side sprinkling of salad for only £4.95, it definitely hits the spot. The menu here is unlike any other as they offer giant desserts and hen I say giant I mean GIANT! The picture on the menu didn’t do the Gâteau Florence cake I had justice. Everytime I finished a layer of sponge a level of something fruity was waiting for me. I feel stuffed now just thinking about it! My advice would be to share one. Inside there is plenty of seating but if the weather is good grab a spot outside, it is a great sun trap and though you are near to the train station it’s surprisingly quiet. This is a great place to eat or even just to catch a drink but be warned that the service can be slow at peak times and unless you sit outside you have to have table service(not really to my liking). I suggest you get your food orders in quick and whilst waiting decide which GIANT dessert you are going to have!

If you haven’t been to this pub before I would recommend doing this as soon as possible! Located in the Blake Street Railway, next to the Blake Street station, this pub has a differential: its service! I’m pretty much used to the«go-to-the-bar-and-ask-for-your-beer» kind of serving but as there is nothing wrong about being spoiled a little bit, I quite enjoyed the way they serve the clientele. A very receptive and attentive to details staff, to be more specific. The fact this pub has a «two for one» menu is also another reason to stop by. It’s pretty much a kind of deal that when you chose two main courses from a special section of the menu, the lower priced meal chosen is for free. I can guarantee their four cheese and roasted Mediterranean vegetable pie made my day and even If I have already tried better Tangy lemon curds before, I will certainly repeat a meal experience at Blake Barn soon! They have parking but the best way to visit this pub is by train. No driving, the drinks are allowed!
