Not bad… went with a bunch of people from work. They were accommodating in a small separate room which was nice. I have a problem when you have to ask for a drink a second time(after eveyone at the table gets served). I think this is something you should just notice if you are working as a server. The food was good, no issues there. My suggestion would be to go with the chefs special(anywhere) if the menu fails to grab you. If you trust the chef, most of the time, you will not be disappointed.

Ladies — when traveling alone on business and looking for a place to grab a drink, this might not exactly be the place for you. I personally am an adventurous sort, so the«laddish» population at the pub didnt bother me much. I was a bit surprised that the ladies that were there in groups or with partners were dressed more like they were going dancing at a posh night club rather than grabbing an ale and sitting back to play darts or snooker. Anywho… being american and this is my first time in the UK; I found it excellent. Drinks were reasonable and the staff was rather nice to me. The crowd seemed jovial and welcoming. I give this place a 7(out of ten).

A 5.30am start and public transport from London are not my ideal way to start the day. A full English breakfast on days like this most certainly is. So, 7.15am found me scouring the good food desert that is Staines for a good fry-up and I was just about to give up when I saw a welcoming sign for breakfast at The George. With hindsight, I wish I’d totally missed it. Overcooked bacon with black bits from the grill or pan stuck to it, a dried out disk of what I assume was meant to be black pudding, tasteless overcooked pork sausage, OK beans, OK egg, grilled tomato and hash browns that looked they’d just come straight from a children’s freezer meal. Alright, it was 2.79 for a lot of food but I’d rather have paid triple for less but better quality food. Saving grace, really good coffee.

The George caused great excitement when it opened in Staines around 10 years ago as it was the first of the chain pubs to arrive(it’s a Wetherspoons). I used to go 2 or 3 times a week for drinks after work with friends, but I haven’t gone that often for a long time as the allure of the chain pub has long worn off. There’s nothing actually wrong with it — you can get the drink you want, easily find a table and order some food — but it’s just bland. The food has gone downhill fast in the last couple of years and I can’t say that the staff have ever been overly friendly.
