I’ve used the Slug & Lettuce for eating during the daytime and drinking in the evenings, you get two completely different experiences here. I much prefer eating here, the menu has a lot of choice and food is well prepared. The staff are helpful and I don’t usually have to wait long for my food which is handy as I usually only eat here during lunch breaks. I try to avoid drinking here on busy Friday & Saturday nights, there are so many pubs in St Albans I don’t see the point in queuing forever to get served(if you can even get to the bar as many groups just seem to congregate there and get in everyone’s way) and standing around unable to chat over the music. In my day(here comes some nostalgia) groups of blokes and groups of girls would go out, have a few drinks and have a bit of banter with the opposite sex, regardless of whether the intentions were to go on the pull or just have a laugh. The Slug & Lettuce is the type of place where the modern day youth spend their evenings standing around pouting, checking themselves out on the mirror and not engaging with anyone outside of their own group. Rant over in summary cracking food here!

I love this bar very much! It is cheap enough to have a good night out with friends, yet expensive enough to keep the«kids» of a friday night firmly away!, beautifully decorated, well maintained and comfortable(if ur lucky enough to get a seat!) a really good variety of drinks and wonderful food, I always come here on a friday night if im out and about, brilliant atmosphere, my only moan is that my first time there i had trouble locating the loos! bit of a maze up there lol!

This pub is always my first choice when we go for a night out in St Albans. The atmosphere is really great, it is stylishly decorated and at the weekends it is always quite busy(but not too busy like some of the pubs in St Albans). The drinks are a little expensive, but I think its worth it for the type of bar it is. They do have a few unusual drinks on the menu as well, like strawberry beer(worth a try although I seem to find women like it more than men!). The food there is really good as well, typical wine bar type food(i.e. paninis, wraps etc) but really yummy!
